Hi everyone, I haven't posted in a while and just wanted to sound off. I've been having a terrible time with my grows. Low germination, contams, etc... I'm fairly experienced too! It's my turn I guess. So I'm gonna turn it around and do a little reverse psychology on myself. Given the brief shelf life of our fruits what do you all do with yours? Like tea or capsules, cookies? Something that will last a long time? Thanks in advance.

I dry mine out to 10% of their original wet weight, vacuum seal them.

Honey is a great way to preserve the shrooms for probably years, and makes em taste great. The honey will turn blue eventually and be psychedelic as hell. You can just stick whole ones in honey and preserve em that way, or you can powder them and soak for a month or two, then filetr em for just honey with no shrooms in it.  You do need the fruits to be CRACKER DRY to prevent botulism(I've heard).

Here is a thread I found by TV casualty for "magical honey"(link).

Funny that you bring this up because I'm having the same problem! I have a lot of experience too and can't remember a time when it was this big of a problem. I've been deep cleaning and looking at my practice to try and resolve it. In the Western US we have had very hot and dry weather and I know contams like the warm weather. Just my turn too?

Your reply makes it seem like you forgot that this was originally your thread.

But in any case if you want to track down the cause of the problem we'll need more data and/or photos.

Where and when does the contamination appear? Is it always the same contaminant showing up at the same time in the same places (more or less)?

Have you tried using "blanks?" Blanks are just jars of substrate that you don't inoculate, and they can tell you a lot if they contaminate (and also tell you something if they don't).

And we all get our turn, so just think of contamination as part of the "fun" of growing since it will be either way.

While hot and humid is worse than hot and dry, hot weather probably means using air conditioning and air conditioners are literal mold factories. I wouldn't be surprised if that was the source of your problems.

I live where it's hot and often very humid and found it wasn't worth trying to grow in Summer, so I quit and just grow when the temp is ideal or I need to heat the room (heating doesn't create a contaminant risk like cooling does).

It's been a while since last posting and this thread caught my eye. Ever since last spring all I've gotten is one contam after another so what TVCasualty said makes sense. The last really sucessful grow I got was PB during the winter with three contaminated grows since and a couple mediocre grows of Florida and KSSS.both of which contamed after a couple flushes. With the change of seasons and putting a high efficiency air cleaner in the grow room maybe things will turn for the better.

I get to test the the air conditioning hypothesis starting today. Last night I spawned 2 qts of Treasure Coast to sub. I closed off the vents to the room, put a high efficiency air cleaner in the room and did a 2:1 ratio instead of my typical 3:1 sub to spawn. Now for the waiting part....

Things are looking up for the TC grow, I got my first infant shroom today. Almost overlooked it it was so tiny, mistook it for mycelia at first. Next up will be GWM that I'm raising from a spore print.
