Is donkey manure sufficient to use in mycology? Does cow manure work? Can I eliminate manure when trying to yield a bulk mono by just using a sterile brf mix with a fully colonized cake shredded? Thanks for your time yall

wekcome! cow manure that has been leached works excelent. not sure about donkey, depends I guess on their diet. You can use coir or vermiculite for a sub but if you use BRF it can contaminate easy, and with any suppliment, you will need to sterilize the sub vs. pasteurization. My personal favorite is coir and used coffee grounds  here's a link https://mycotopia.ne...t-a-4-part-tek/

Heck yeah, a bulk BRF mono tub would kick ass. If you figure out how to keep it "Sterile" without a high tech laboratory please share that with us. Even filtered myco-bags with sterilized BRF have trouble with contamination. There is a reason there isn't 1000s of threads doing bulk BRF mono tubs and why so many folks choose to play with poo instead.

Donkey or horse manure are both great if gathered from a pasture. Stuff gathered from stalls is hit or miss. I've never used cow manure so can't add anything about it.

I really like straw, though. And depending on your circumstances straw may have some advantages over manure (e.g. it's easier to get than manure for some people, it facilitates better marital relations than cooking poop in the house tends to, faster colonization time/fruits sooner).

Crumbling BRF cakes into pasteurized straw is a great way to grow bulk subs, and I agree with everyone else who advises against trying to inoculate a large, sterile BRF cake with a small colonized one.

Good luck!

Man I used to love getting manure from this nice lady that had 2 horses and 2 donkeys. She kept it all in a nice neat pile under a shade tree. It was the best. Man I miss that ladies poo.

I've only seen wbs with the coffee that's interesting, still alittle wet behind the ears with the coir, soaking it all in, interesting how many different substrate mediums that can be used. Just straw you say..choices..how about potency in comparison between wbs-brf-or rye? Appreciate the time and info thank you

Man I miss that ladies poo.

:thumbs_up2:

I have grown with both horse and donkey, as well as cow manure. They all perform about equally in my experience, but need to be leached and somewhat composted. The horse and donkey especially as they compost/breakdown at a much higher temperature.

As mentioned, straw does an amazing job growing mushrooms as well. Simple and no real aroma you need to get out of the house.

Now your question about potency and grains, all work equally in my opinion and experience.

I've done a "super cake" grow once, where the recipe for Hippie3's cake was all put into a spawn bag until birthing HERE it is. Not sure about how to keep a large, grain only grow "clean" to get fruits......

Best of luck in your adventures and may they be fruitful

My shit fetish in order

Field dried golden nuggets from a horse

Field dried golden nuggets from a donkey

Field dried golden nuggets from a cow.

If the shit has to be composted to work I'll use it with caution. Stable shit has all that piss in it along with mud so you need to start adding other stuff to counteract. The nitrogen alone from all the piss will kill a good spawning in no time.

With this type of shit it's best to add more shit to make it more usable. Verm, straw, coir, etc.

Being a straight kind of shit lover I don't mixing all that shit and waiting for compost.

Straight horse shit field dried is my preference.
