Hi everybody!

This is my first time growing mushrooms (me and friend actually).

This is how we went and how we are right now:

April 5 we started with rice, "esterilizing" (we don't have a pressure cooker so we boiled the jars a couple of hours) and so on.

Mixed colonized rice with coconut fiber.

After another week.

Applied a thin layer of vermiculite.

Wer added a LED light light as the room is quite dark.

We collected the bigger mushrooms and use the 2 bigger hats to make prints.

I have a couple of questions:

  • We are not sure why the mushrooms are small and we also expected to grow a lot more, maybe a weak FAE? my friend opened only once a day this last days. Maybe lack of light?
  • We plan to collect all of the mushrooms and get ready for a second flush but we are not sure on how to proceed here.
  • The current container has 2 inches (aprox) of water at the bottom with a fish tank heater, but It seems humidity is droping (we never misted as we thought the water in the container will give the needed humidity), any thougths on this?

Sorry for my non native English

Thanks!

And this is right now, we've collected all of the mushrooms and in the afternoon we'll re-hydrate for the 2nd flush.

looks great! as far as size goes, way too many variables involved, but fresh air is an important one.

You say your humidity was dropping.

I used tubs with perlite a few inches deep and water , the perlite wicks up water and the rough uneven edges greatly increases the surface are increasing humidity.

you guys have done very well for a first time. glad you joined us here.

if you try the perlite use something plastic to lift tubs above perlite, alternatively some have used aquarium air pump bubbling increasing humidity and at the same time fresh air. I used the air pump with perlite when i grew ps. mexicana years ago

That is an excellent first grow. Far better than my first. I will certainly be looking for more posts from you in the future.

Good luck!

Damn fine work for a first attempt! Frankly by the looks of it, it appears you have been doing this awhile, so hats off to you.

You will be filling those tubs to the rafters soon at this rate.  :meditate:

Congratulations on a fine first grow!

Drop the aluminum trays next go round. They do not holdup and are a health risk.

Unless you are going for prints I'd harvest right after the veil breaks.

Enjoy the fruits of your labor!

Well it seemed that the lack of FAE (and also of light) was the reason for the first mushrooms to be that small, because for the second flush, where we opened the container several times a day, misting the walls, and placing a led strip this mushrooms are much bigger than the first ones.

Picture from Saturday:

Picture from yesterday, we collected the bigger ones, we'll collect the remainings late tuday and then gor for a third flush

Yes sir. That should help. Next time pitch the trays and just grow straight I'm the tub. Block out all light from the sides at the substrate line so only light hits the top. Easier, more space. And like someone mentioned above, apparently it poses a health hazard to use that aluminum.
