This is what I got for soil. Can it be used to germinate loph seeds?

It looks pretty high in organic or peat. You could use it, but just looking at the loose soil I would most definitely add coarse sand and if you have it, some rocky dirt. I would mix it at 1/2 cactus mix, and 1/2 made from equal parts coarse sand and plain rocky dirt with the big stuff sifted out.

You would also want to add some source of lime, either crushed oyster shell, garden lime, or dolomite in small portions.

Could I use crushed eggshells? I save them for my compost so I've always got some on hand

Sift soil, then mix 50/50-sifted soil/sand.

If you just use that soil you will have a frick ton of algae.

Don't forget to sterilize in microwave for 1:30 minutes minimum. Helps eliminate some algae/fungus94c7a80f46e53bee6530bd1c84fdd7ab.jpg

Alright I cut the soil 50% with sand. I'm nuking it right now. I've only got 15 little seeds at the moment so I think I'm gonna use this little sauce container

Make sure to let soil cool well before putting seeds in mix, soil can be warm but not hot.

Do you know of proper cactus seed germination routes?

Yeah I do. It's just been a very long time since I've done this. I had some buttons that I sprouted and grafted over a decade ago but I lost those in a move. Also had about 10 San pedro that I sprouted but I gave away and lost those too. My friend's mom still has one that I gave her all those years ago. It's only a couple feet tall but she only keeps it in a window. She never brings it outside or anything. Anyhow here I am now starting over. I'm excited to get back into it

I look forward to seeing how these seeds take.

Do you plan on doing any grafting this summer? I just started giving it a try recently, have had pretty decent succeas.

I certainly do. I'm also building a greenhouse for them to live in during summer

They look great. I lost 100 seeds to a rampaging attack in the last 3 days, very disheartening but I'll just have to reevaluate and reattempt

6 out of 15 have sprouted. I'm already satisfied with the germ rate so far but if a few more sprout I'll be really happy!
