I’ve been growing cubes for a couple years now. I want to start Copelandia next month. But I’ve always been intimidated by them. First of their price. I can eat a $12 cube syringe if I mess up, but $30 each is a gamble I don’t like. So I’m thinking about making a LC first. Is karo/water sufficient for copes? Still 4% as well? Next is I have only moved from cakes to casing, spawn bags, bulk substrate and mono tubs this year. Which I know is the most efficient way to grow them. So in order to not fail here either, I plan to buy a pre-sterilized organic grain spawn bag with injection port and a horse manure based dung loving bulk substrate. If I get this right and able to make a few prints from my harvest, I’ll be able to experiment with my own home made spawn bags and bulk substrate. Anyone has any advice or suggestions to my plan?

After your post I studied Agar. It seems easier than LC and you’re right about ensuring clean genetics. I read somewhere here that in the case of a MS to agar plate. If there is contam on one side, you can simply slice the clean side and place on another plate or use it. Is this true? My superstition with contams is never to open around my work area due to possible contam spores getting airborne. Instead, isolate from the work area and discard outside and clean container outside before bringing it back inside.
Growing pans just takes a little more focus Nick, they are not that much more difficult than cubes just less forgiving. Many people use LC so hopefully someone will give specifics on that. If you don't already, you might look into agar. It is very similar to making LC and opens up the world of spore prints to you. This allows you to be sure you are putting clean genetics to grain or subs. As a start, buying your ready made grains and subs is very convenient and should work for you? If you become engulfed by this hobby (like many of us) you'll eventually start making your own grains and subs which is not difficult and allows for fine tuning and experimentation. I personally use a high % of straw in my pan grows along with compost and worm poo. That said, I still have a lot to learn myself about growing pans!I’ve been growing cubes for a couple years now. Good luck and feel free to post whatever questions you might have.
Hopefully you've already read Asura's write up.https://mycotopia.ne...anescens/page-1
I will add, I use MS from agar instead of isolating for specific traits.

I prefer the agar route as well - I've had no luck with LC's. The LC liquor must be sterilized hot and long enpugh to kill all contaminants yet not so hot and long so as to carmalize the liquor. I have not found the magical combination of pressure and time. I did a number of trials at 10 psi and 26 minutes but none colonized well.
The most important step with Pans is to isolate and then grow out on agar only white and fluffy mycelium that grew fast. If you get here successfully, you are well on your way to success.

Nice, Cincts are one of my favorites, I believe they form beautiful "blue" pearls as well. Need me a print one of these days, thought I had an LC of it awhile back, NOT so much... source NO bueno. Healthy vibrant fruits you have, that ring on the CAP though....
