I have bags and bags of shredded corrugated I use in the worm farm. Un-dyed, labels etc removed, just wood. Has anyone had experience using it in bulk substrate (or otherwise)? What amounts, and was it as a sub for something else?

I hear that it works ok as an agar substitute but I didn't have much luck when I tried it. I could see it working as a substrate but probably needs to be shredded fairly fine and gotta make sure it doesn't turn to soup at the same time.

it can work ok as a filler in bulk subs, but IME it doesn't work to fruit from on its own for cubies

Pretty much any wood loving mushroom will eat it up though

It will work as an agar substitute for wood lovers too, and for cubies in a crunch.

I've used it with oyster mushrooms with varying degrees of success. Haven't tried yet with cubes, but I wouldn't expect much from it there.

I've mixed shredded cardboard and spent coffee grounds at 4:1 then sterilized in a oven bag and spawned. Grew some kick ass oysters, lions mane, and shiitake.

I've also used it to preserve clones when I'm too lazy for agar and to grow out wood lovers. 44572955cf9fa4001b88b879a15403d2.jpg6e35614858903fb2c9b445d4edbd7f3b.jpg

Agar substitute: are we talking for storage of a strain? Propagation?

Both. If for propagation from spores, you'll have to soak it in a nutrient broth like honey or karo water.
