Found this beauty under a tree on the golf course. It is fairly dry here so quite a sight for me to see

I don't think it's a puff I've seen them before they resemble trees in miniature to me they seem to be very hearty to break the ground that much

That's what it is! I wasn't sure how to go about looking to describe it because i didn't think it was a fungi but a flowering plant and I searched the name you put to it and that sure is it. We also have pink lady slippers in that area in the right weather conditions

Ghost pipe is a very powerful medicine from the woods and anecdotally I have been lead to believe it is a must have for any "psychedelic first aid kit". Ive been told it has the ability to take an uncontrollably powerful and uncomfortable experience and make it more manageable and bring you back to baseline. I particularly have not needed to use it (on myself or any other unlucky/unprepared individuals), but a great tool to help if permanent mental health is at risk... It is also said to be a powerful painkiller and highly respected in some cultures...

Edit: bring a canning jar of vodka or everclear with you next time and you can male a simple tincture. But please be respectful when you harvest so as to keep it sustainable...
