Picture 1: GT tub. Picture 2: RW tub. Picture 3: RW shoebox. Picture 4: GT shoebox. How's it all looking? The tubs seem to be colonizing pretty fast and the shoeboxes are catching up. When should I start misting my substrate? I'm using Bod's unmodified monotub tek from the Shroomery. 8eff081334ebb7a68d057aaf2faee035.jpgfd3182ffab13f2cdd74d0414cc5d5b91.jpge7a447e29f865c3f5b95933a49033b96.jpg45853e301a4df40501c1a2c5901135d1.jpg

Is this aerial mycelium growing in my GT tub? If so what does it mean if anything? Some of it has a little ball at the end are they already starting to knot if so this is pretty fast since I spawned only 4 days ago. 096d240fdc5456dba0b48d86f0b0bcb7.jpg

Yep those are the ends of rhizo growth which is where your knots usually start. I love it when my mycelium is so strong it reaches out like that

Good I just misted it. Made sure that the water formed beads smaller than dew drops. Hoping the evaporation will promote pinning.

Tbh you really don't have to worry about misting until after the first flush. Tubs are just set and forget. I never find myself needing to "coax" the first flush out of a tub like I would when I grew cakes.
Misting can supposedly harm the primordia as well. Most stop misting after the knots start to form.

Ok good to know. I just figured since my house was really dry and the coir that wasn't colonized was looking a bit light colored as if dry.

Here's an update on all my tub experiments. Do y'all think I'm still looking good? 5 days colonizing so far. 7aeb83ed7361d6dd5abfbef871c794ae.jpgbea832f029c87a2e2868bb7222ac5fd4.jpge1b9305c162abde0dd9bb1f1eb0a0f3e.jpg772a05723528b83b543f17631534cff3.jpg841d8c574cc93426ecf820f56a8d597f.jpg

How's everything looking so far? I haven't misted since yesterday and I don't think I will have to until after the first flush since the surface still looks good.

I haven’t been misting at all but I’m thinking about doing a very modest casing of 50/50 soon as I get more knotting. Kinda like a late casing,. Your tubs look beefier than mine,. How much spawn did you use and how much bulk I forget I’ll just go back and look,. Have you read the official grow along thread from pasty when RW was officially released?

Yeah I read it I thought it was pretty cool. I am on pins and needles waiting for pins (no pun intended).

Ok so I took so close up pictures of my tubs does this look ok to you? The coir is looking a little tan but there is moisture beads on the surface. I don't want to mist it if I don't have to but I also don't want it to dry out. It hasn't pulled away from the sides either. Let me know what y'all think. 07eb4d0a0c1ae37658509d1111001ed6.jpg1f7510fe087c79c30e0d9413dbec9f10.jpg

Wait actually yours has more aerial myc reaching out I notice now mine has very very little of that in the tubs,. I wouldn’t assume I’m right but I believe they are actually indicative of over moisture,. I have always been told to lean toward the dry side when starting out to best defend against contamination in this our first grows

I'll keep an eye on it. I only misted once because the coir was light colored as if it was dry but I'm gonna do my best to just leave it alone. I'll just keep an eye on the temps. My house is just really dry. I used to do metal casting and I would keep my crucible in that room and never had to bake the moisture out of it no matter how long I stored it even on the most humid of days. That's how dry my house is.

Yeah it’s not gonna hurt to mist it a little bit I’m pretty sure most ppl do, it’s just easy to go over board. Once you do you can’t go back. mine was all pre hydrated I know it’s perfectly wet already or I would do the same thing you’re doing awesome! I envy you for getting into agar already! I gotta LC from RW spore solution I’m gonna test in a couple days. I’m waiting to see if the popcorn is gonna tam first so I know for sure if it’s any good or not,. I just noc’d up some cam gold and South African Transkei,.
