So yeah... we now have AI developed in just the last few months that can pass science tests - not data retrieval type questions, but actual word problems that require thinking.

So.... what do you all think about that?

Where I think AI is going to get surreal is when it writes its own computer languages to develop more sophisticated algorithms that in turn create even more complex (and utterly opaque to humans) languages and algorithms, or designs chip architecture and processing arrays in a way that is optimal for the AI but may be utterly incomprehensible to a human. If we build what it tells us to, and that process is repeated a few times then it may well take on a "life" of it's own even if it's not self-aware in the sense that we are.

At some point we will literally have no idea what is going on inside the "mind" of an AI; we will only be able to analyze its output. To some degree this is already the case.

Well, we will just have to add the ai to our own wet ware, extending ourselves like lawn-mower men in that case.
