So this is my first go at pf tek. I inoculated 9 jars, but one jar is sketching me out. It also happens to be the same jar i did not create a verm barrier because i figured if it made it i would have enough room in the jar to create slurry. Feedback would be great.

Hi all, first time grower here, attempting to grow some Mazatapec. 6 days into innoculation and saw these two jars that look suspicious. The one with the red spot if assume is gone. Unsure about the other one.

Another question is, when discarding, should I get rid of the whole thing or can I keep the jar for future endeavors?

take our side the jar and where gloves or be clean make sure nothing gets on you. arms out. out the jar and discard. maybe in a bag and tie up and throw away. You don’t want my bad spores or mold to get to your room, clothes, house and then you are stuck with that and spreading it to other jars. You can keep and re use the jar but pressure cook it for 2 hours and clean very very well.

Nice lipstick mold. Take that way outside away from everything. Personally, I toss every moldy container. Use caution.

Yeah that looks like lippy to me, and I'd be tossing.. Does lipstick mould go in compost, does anyone know? Or should you nuke it and chuck it in the Bin? I'm wondering about spores but then compost is loaded with just about everything anyway...

It'll be a miracle if it works without the dry verm layer.

It already may be funky but it's hard to tell for sure due to the lighting of the photo.

I am going to isolate this jar for science. But what is the difference between this idea and a wbs tek? That tek has no verm barrier and plenty of room to inject water.

Whole grain jars and spawn bags need to have filters on them so they allow gas exchange but keep contaminants out. The dry verm layer acts as the filter for BRF style jars.

How that jar is set up wasn't detailed so you might have a filter on it but I got the impression that it doesn't.

It has one small hole with micropore tape. I injected directly into the tape. Idk if that matters

So far your jar looks ok. Did you put another piece of tape over the tape you shoved the needle through?

It does if you didn't cover the hole with another piece of tape like onediadem asked about. The only kind of "self-healing" injection port involves a glob of silicone (like is used for airports).
