So I currently have 2 Unmodified monotubs. One is a 54qt spawned with WBS 2:1/coir:spawn(12hr coffee water soak no simmer) nocc'd up with MS grown on agar to verify clean culture. This was done with a psuedo casing layer of coir. The other was from an unlabeled agar dish put to WBS then spawned to a 32qt tub no casing (exposed grains) 1:1/coir:spawn. The 32qt was done a day before the 54qt. They have been colonizing for about 2 weeks. The 32 qt has knots primordia and pins. I noticed knots in the 54qt this morning. Now for some pictures. My camera messes with the color I assure there is no contamination. Some of the dry spots are where the coir was pushed up by the mycelium and dried it a bit everything looks healthy in person. 9a028551d4d92cf07e22db65f88b622a.jpga896badf4dd0afc8c6b474dc23d25c0c.jpgb56476d29add0d61b65791f59dd38e59.jpg3f14d3e01b04d6b1eb6f3598b26bddb0.jpg18540aa6773dd06d129bf920c0dab336.jpg6d29252adb0a69670a3fd2822b593a1b.jpg

I'm gonna get straight to the point with some pics of the progress on my Rusty Whyte tubs. Pics 1&2 are the 54qt (un-cased) and the first pin! Pics 3&4 are the 32qt (with a light psuedo casing layer) with several pins knots and primordia you may have to zoom in to see them.07937f880aebcc20590326ec0c981600.jpg75b07383d7937249b78fcaffda7c9948.jpgd66c845d23bbb805d36aceb36bc9bca0.jpg75b3c5a56e2d1318a1db27c8060f35d5.jpg

How's your humidity in that last one?  It doesn't look like there's a lot of condensation on the walls...

There's condensation on the walls but with the tek I'm using (Bod's unmodified monotub tek from the Shroomery) surface conditions are what matters. This is also a lower temperature grow experiment with the temperature dropping as low as 65. So far it's slow going but it's definitely keeping the contamination at bay.

Here's a photo update for my Rusty tubs. First 2 pictures are side views of the pins poking up from the surface (uncased 32qt first, psuedo casing 54qt 2nd). The last 3 pictures are of the 54qt and all the knots on the surface. 8725eb0415ca481d2c117cc935ef1254.jpgce3bee3ff0fcfcf7af288a3be6e7a0aa.jpg1ae89e0fb64211921e373036ea371f69.jpg8e2bb31f8f8bdba22462d657634ded25.jpg7f9f137e14bb46222a5f36ca6c07e43e.jpg

So in the span of a night I have a couple of big boys growing underneath the sub (32qt). I guess I'll have to start using liners. I was trying to do without them because that's how Bod does it(TC from the Shroomery). So I guess I have some learning to do before I can go liner less. The substrate is still too loose to lift the corner up and get at them. Anyone here have any suggestions on what to do? I don't want to hurt the sub by trying to harvest them and I don't want to leave them in the tub to decompose and possibly rot and attract bacteria. But other than that it's going well. My 54qt is doing great too. It's COVERED with hyphal knots and a few pins I'll post some pics later on.

Here's a picture of what I'm talking about. It's a biggun for sure. Any suggestions on how I can remove it when it's ready without hurting my substrate? Sorry for all the moisture in the way but you can plainly see how much it has pushed the substrate up.cc06c5e7eec1aec4c9ae765a5892fa85.jpg

So I think I have found my problem. I don't think my substrate is deep enough. I've been doing anywhere between 2-2 1/2". My 54qt tub is around 3" and its doing great no side pins. So in the future I will be doing tubs at a 1:2-3/spawn:sub to get my depth to 3".

I think your substrate is deep enough, looks like something just triggered the fruiting early, maybe peaking too much. It’s very important to just set and forget your mono tubs for at least 10 days before checking them. The tubs look fantastic tho, maybe just tape up the bottom and sides with black tape. Keep up the good work!

My 54qt is doing great it has quite a few pins and some small mushies. It's the better looking of the two. The substrate is just short of 3" and it at a 1:2.5/spawn:coir ratio. There are no side pins nor any under pins.I decided to case my 32qt with moistened vermiculite (just shy of field capacity) to try to improve surface conditions. The substrate is less than 3" and more like 2-2.5" at a 1:1 ratio spawn:coir. This is probably why my substrate is evaporating and shrinking so quickly and contributing to my side/under pin problem. So from now on I will be doing my tubs at a 1:2.5/spawn:coir ratio. Whatever gets me a substrate depth of 2.5-3". Other cultivators may have good results with thinner substrate depth but for my room conditions the deeper substrate is better. 3af8ea213a4f4efcf56e78480fe0b87d.jpgeba0d9f0db866191066beca5eae2db1d.jpgdf44ef455b9214610dfe767b3c702b0f.jpg

So I decided to get a cool mist humidifier for my grow room. I set it up and let it run for the 9 hours I was at work and the results from my 54qt tub are definitely noticeable. I have way more large pins than I did before I left! From now on I will be using a 1:2/spawn:coir ratio with a 1/4" of psuedo casing and I'll be running my humidifier while I'm at work.
1st pic is the before and the 2nd is the after. e9cd9e0d7a45a797543a5cbc1a04412c.jpgf9012a2be98ec66bde6805b8cc19ae9c.jpg

Gonna they to get ahold of some dishes for some no pour agar plates. I have a feeling that I'm gonna get some nice clone able fruit from this grow.

I came home last night from work to the beautiful sight of mushies ready for the picking. My 54qt tub has produced over 90g wet. Possibly more right now, I just woke up so I'm about to check them now. I'm just waiting on my 32qt to start pushing up through the casing layer of verm I put on it.9ce5a020cebc84539d43fdf20fc1c57f.jpg566adeb66fc8cfd0f8bc175bbe9ff57d.jpg

Looking good man! This was the first was I ever grew mushrooms expcept with popcorn for spawn.

Something I was told when growing Rez-effect like this was to apply some coir or verm over the grains poking up... not a thick layer but just enough to keep them under the surface. It always worked great for me!

Just a little food for thought :)

This tub is still spitting out shrooms on the daily. So far I have gotten an oz dry not including what's on the dryer now and what will be ready to harvest tomorrow. I'll post some more pics later. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving day/ dinner.
