Do they or have they moved around at all? Perhaps they are in different places than the original photo? The is a pic my galley of some brown stuff that was like a slime mold. Your photos remind me of that. I ll about digging it out to edit and post the pic here.

I was thinking, if it were something that came in the soil in the form of spores - maybe you could do something to the soil prior to mixing it in with the rest of the substrate - in the same way we do a 24 hour soak for our grains - to let the spores germinate so you kill the germinated mycelium in sterilization. Might have been that the spores survived in this case. Not really soak it but bring up to FC and let it sit for a day or maybe two before mixing in with the rest before sterilization.

Just speculation of course.. and maybe it's not a good idea at all and it might be better to avoid using it again. Have you ever had anything like this before using the same soil/substrate? Guess not.

I hope they have stopped growing because the cube mycelium is dealing with it, might be a battle going on in there.

I pc'd and pasteurized the soil prior. I think it was my Vermiculite

I think im gonna soak and flip.

Something odd is happening with the photos. The top two open fine, but for the rest I can only see thumbnails and there looks to be 14 copies of one image and 3 of a second, and I can't get any of them to open.

I'm also trying to figure out what I'm looking at. But I'm seeing a bunch of little fat pins popping up so that's good news.

It's a fascinating image with its ambiguity. My vote would be for egg cartons.
