Perhaps only my opinion...

Peter Gabriel has catered to psychedelics since the early days of Genesis.

I find he is a creative genius, and as an artist his songs are multi layered. So remains one of my favorite albums even now.

Maybe. I dont know much about him or his music. I had to learn this song on the guitar as its amazing. I tryed to search what the song was actually about and noone had a clear answer. Finally i ate some magic and it came to me.

I find every song is about tripping, while I am myself tripping................

He is a very interesting musician, and artist. You would undoubtedly like quite a bit more of his music.

From Peter Gabriel's own mouth:

What did it all mean

Gabriel has said the song is about:

…being prepared to lose what you have for what you might get, or what you are for what you might be. It’s about letting go.

In any event Dabluebonic, thank you for the question. It took me through a lot of good memories....

While I do find it interesting to hear artist talk about the genesis of a song and the meaning behind the lyrics, sometimes honestly it has ruined songs for me. You might have this notion in your head and it works for you, give you good feelings. Then you find out it was just a couple of words that sounded good together and didn't really have much meaning at all when they wrote it. It just sounded cool...

I know it's a bit of a cliche thing to say, it's the art side of music. I don't think it really matters what the song is exactly about. I think it's cool if it means many things to different people. Some of my favorite song's have a clear intent and or story. Then again I have no fucking clue what they are trying to say in a song like Kashmir but I adore the song. ( Don't even think about telling me about it!!!)  If that's what you decipher out of the lyrics then I say roll with it. That is what makes music so universal, it can sort of be all things to everyone at once. Not many things can accomplish this feat

Same goes for me too now that you think of it. Maybe not ruined the song but definitely put a new perspective on it. One of my favorite songs growing up ended up being about suicide. Some songs are straight forward and some not. Lately I've been listening to classical music as there are no lyrics. Kind of lets your imagination off its leash. As do songs like this i believe you can take it how you want it. Im sure the artist wouldn't mind.

Music can mean whatever you want it to I believe that if a song makes you feel a certain way or have a certain meaning to you personally then that's what it means everyone interprets things differently no need to put labels on it or believe that it has to only mean one thing that's the most amazing thing about music to me one day a song means one thing 6 months later different circumstances it could mean something else....just my personal opinion
