Is there a casing layer on that?

I mixed the spawn with the substrate and then put a layer of just substrate on top. Pretty sure that is a casing layer but I'm a total newb.

When looking to test the contitions of a tub you want to take note of...

Historic aspects of sight- Has the tub changed since last time you saw it? Often times contamination grows fast and off color to the mycelium.

Smell- This is the most important for testing your jars, bags or tubs for contamination. Contaminants smell off.

Sight- How is the humidity levels? Is there condensation on the walls, pools of water on the sub? Uneven moisture levels across the sub? What is the color?

These are some question you can ask yourself when asking this question.

You're sub looks good to me, but I cant smell it. If it smells like normal coir and a bit of mycelium then its most likely fine and continue as noted.

Looks like very weak growth which could be a sign of a competing organism such as mold or bacteria... take the smell test like moonless suggested other then that only time will tell.

Casing should be non nutritive as far as i know.

What is your substrate? Did you add the casing after the tub was fully colonized?
How long has it been in fruiting conditions?
