Since we are a community of fungus and gardening.  I'm a advent forager, I was wondering.
Do we have any foragers here?
Outside of the usual morels and ramps, what do you forage for?
Some stuff I snagged while on a walk recently.
Here you have, romaine lettuce, wild onion, dandelion greens w/ buds and flowers, hairy bittercress, and purple dead nettle, violet flowers, with a fresh basil apple cider vinaigrette

And here's the final product.

It is still snowing where I live, so it is kinda hard.  This weather drive me nuts.

I can't wait to get out there and forage.

I usually grab some fiddle heads and cattails.

Looks like we have another month to go here.

Definately into foraging. One of my favorite things to do, and it can be done almost anywhere. If you see things growing, there is something edible to be found. I like to experience the vast flavors and appreciate the many nutritional values often not available in stores. Last year, I found out maple seeds are edible. I jumped right on that wagon and gave em a try. A bit tedious to remove the samaras (the little wing that makes em spin like a helicopter as they fall), but worth the effort. Not bad raw, perhaps a bit grassy in flavor, but very tasty when roasted with some oilve oil and salt. maple.jpg

i love to forage too. i pick whatever i find while going about my travels. i get particularly excited during blackberry season :D

people underestimate how much of the wild is edible and a lot of it is extremely tasty! i guess the more toxic crap people are buying from the shelves the more of the good wild stuff is left for people like us!
