Just gave them a shake. So no pics today. But I'm sure they'll be exploding out of there soon.

I would wait until it is fully colonized, as that spot may have some sort of contamination.
In the past, I had jars that would not fully colonize and instead of throwing them in the garbage, I used a spoon to take the well colonized grain and avoid uncolonized grain.
I know that others may say not to do that and just dump the grain, but it worked for me.

I've found that sometimes the grain is too compact at the bottom so the mycelium will not grow into it. Additionally, I don't really shake the jars at all because I usually forget, and they're really hard to break up.(I just gotta refine my methods)
Furthermore, if the PC was too hot, as mine gets because I leave it unattended sometimes and there is no regulator. If it is too hot the grains at the bottom of the jars will get overcooked, and the mycelium doesn't like that.
Now I have had cases where the mycelium doesn't colonize a whole part of the jar, so I open it and there is that putrescent wet shoe bacteria smell in which that jar will get tossed.
Also there is the possibility that it just didn't like the sides of the jars, as when I opened the jar, the entire middle was beautiful healthy mycelium.
Just my two cents.

Hey, I'll have some photos tonight. Finally showing through the top of the sub. Got a forum question though. I got side experiment going. I don't wanna do a log, but when I post I'd like to make a photo timeline. How do I insert photos in text instead of just at the end?

I used ADD TO POST to put the thumbnail here.......
Adding the/a large photo involves getting the full URL of the upload and adding that using IMAGE up on the tool bar.....
Hope that helps you some.....

Leave that thing alone and covered for about 4 days..... or better a week.......... and then take a peek........
We NEVER get the patience thing do we???? Hahahahahaha........
That's why we need about 216 different fungal projects going simultaneously......
Can't wait to see the final frosty forest eventually with pins....it never gets old...

So a friend is telling me he never cases.
He increases far and introduces light to stimulate pinning.
I can't find anything about this in the vaults?

Moreover. If I must case. What's a good sub for vermiculite. I've pledged never to use perlite or vermiculite.

They really don't need to be cased, those cubies, IME. If that was mine I'd leave that in it's incubation environment until it's fully colonized and then introduce to fruiting conditions....FAE and some light
Steady as she goes captain...........
Just my couple of pfennig.....and a string of dots..
