Poll: How strong can you get isopropanol?

What is the strongest dye-free isopropyl alcohol you can routinely buy over the counter in your region?

I'm curious what the is most potent dye-free isopropanol you can routinely get in your region for psychedelics recrystallization use.

Some issues have forced me to abandon most of my garden for the rest of this summer and come back indoors to lockdown. While brainstorming, a possible project occurred to me and it would be helpful to have some idea what strength of isopropanol is available to other psychonauts.

I used to be able to buy 99% but lately [even before pandemic] the best I've seen is 91%, and with my lab I can easily make 91% from 70% so I could do my experiment with any option, but only 91% would currently be sustainable for me.

You should be able to get 99% if you look around. It’s not restricted or anything. Heet fuel additive is reportedly straight methanol too if that helps. The yellow bottle, not the IP formula.
What are you recrystalizing? Lots of solvents you could try. It would be interesting to read your comparisons.

Well my village is rural, if I went to the big city I may be able to find more 99% medical or industrial isopropanol.

I have advantages others don't: I can safely distill isopropanol [to 91%], methanol from windshield washer fluid, I have solvents like 95% ethanol, ethyl acetate, toluene, xylene, petroleum ether, chloroform, pyridine, octane, acetone, 2-butanone, and others  But if I publish anything I want it to be of practical value to others. So I probably wont be using pyridine, my isopropanol-toluene azeotrope, or exclusively using isopropanol in grades not widely available.

It's been 11 months since I finished off my good mescaline and it'll be another month before I can use any drugs, so I've been thinking about making more mescaline. Once I have a jar of mescaline•HCl if I'm still locked indoors I may get playful and fill in gaps in our knowledge of the solubilities of neutral mescaline fumarate, stoichiometric mescaline bifumarate, and possibly others.

I anticipate true mescaline fumarate will be maddeningly hygroscopic just like true DMT fumarate but I expect the bifumarate to be able to form crystals freely and have fair to good recrystallization properties.

With two anhydrous acetone washes of powdered desiccated mescaline•HCl I get a nice off-white product with little alkaloid loss but if I move to single solvent recrystallization with isopropanol the loss is notable. I'd like a better recrystallization option that would allow for easy solvent recycling, so I don't force other people to accumulate isopropanol-toluene azeotrope.

It's funny, I routinely go several months without psychedelics but when a doctor imposes it. Man. I want to take a gram of mescaline!

have you used ethanol?  easily made with a modest still. you can get it quite dry with molecular sieves. I'd guess anybody who can get the solvents you have can also get sieves.

Sounds like a fun pandemic project, Elrik.

What was your last one? Tomatoes and porn?

I'm still keeping my tomatoes and established cacti going, that much I can do before the sun comes up and I have to hide.

I always assumed the apocalypse would make people into zombies, in the end it made me into a vampire.
