I'm gonna start this thread with one of the only covers I really like and only because my fav band did it and I was raised on Bob Segar but I love Metallica! So Bob or James?

I'm for the original, Bob Seger.  Not to say others cant do it well, I'm sure they can, but I don't think they can do it better.

I was not the first person to get laid but I feel like I do it better than MANY who have come before me... That being said, depending on your perspective, those who did it first were either VERY uptight or complete ANIMALS...

It really could go either way...

Both comments are very insightful. And I agree . I will say i have to side with Juthro because while I like both songs. James found it hard to tame down his myah yeas.
I realize it's his singing style but it fell on my ear so wrong after the cover... Can I get a myah yeahhh???

Ooh Ooh I think I want to play with this topic! I'll start off with Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower".

Only 5 videos will embed apparently  so the rest are just links.

Here is another "who did it better", Kurt Cobain, vs. Lead Belly.  "In The Pines"

I'm going to give this one to Lead Belly, but I really like Cobain's version as well.

I think it's funny that I've likely eyeballed meh 8 chocolate starfishes give or take 2 since the last time I can recall fred Durst running thru my brain bahaaaa. Nice!
Def sticking with the who on that tho. Original Gangsta points are a big deal for me personally and so both seger and the who win on principle for me.

This is probably one of a handful of songs that I think is done better by anyone else, being I really dislike Dylan. His voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I have really, really tried to get into his music numerous times but I just can't. He has written some awesome songs tho. So, Here are my top 3 versions..

Because, well, I love his voice and guitar, and he is not hard on the eyes. (I am a sucker for long hair lol..)

[Direct Link]

This man is a genius on the guitar, and I honestly believe he doesn't and never has gotten the accolades owed because of his pop status..

[Direct Link]

This is my third choice because I love Native American music, performances and the eclectic artists in this. Mostly in honor of my Grandmother..

[Direct Link]

And here is my choice from coorsmikey's list, random as it may be because there was a certain purity to it..

What a fun topic! Kudos Ma!

Another Nirvana one. Lake of Fire has always been one of my all time favorite tracks from their Unplugged in New York album, with the original from the Meat Puppets.

I far prefer the Nirvana version of this song.

I have no idea how to link videos so that the video will play in the comment...

Yea if you're gonna cover a Skynard song you better do a helluva job! Take it you've never heard Shinedowns version One? It took me awhile to accept it just like metallicas turn the page just because Im used to the originals that were already done hella good! lol

Might be a tie for me, very different emotional stakes in the two versions. One is an old man at the end of his life, looking back. The other a young man looking ahead bleakly. Great cover by Johnny
