They look beautiful, Scott.

My mother grew poppies, and knew what they were.  She is now 84.

I tried growing poppies, but I don't have the knack.

I grow everything else, though.

Got to sow them when its still cold out and in crappy soil. I literally just toss them on the ground where I want them to grow mid winter and the come up well before the last frost and are done growing shortly after the first day of summer. Cooler climates they will keep going well into July. If you live somewhere that cactus thrives then most like you poppies will be done by summer. Also if you miss that natural window then don't expect good results.

They can be difficult to start. If I'm starting new, (if Ive moved house, etc) I sometimes start them in pots in autumn, and put the pots where I want the poppies for the following season. Poppies self seed - worse than rabbits  I don't cut the pods off until they are dry. (Unless I am in pain and they're still green).

Poppies have their own evil agenda.

Dose 2g of shroom and stare at those MotherFuckers and tell me they're here for peaceful purposes?

Not possible.  Run away.

You ARE the human battery meant to propagate their alien species.

I disconnected some years ago ... good luck, bro,

:)

I 'disconnected' years ago as well. I used the poppy tea to stop me going back to the drudge.

And these days I still grow them, but can't be bothered taking them. More correctly, I think it's *wonderful* but the side effects are *dreadful*. I'm getting old...

I hear ya brother -

I still have ... christ, probably 3-4 gallon ziplocks full of ground dry pods that I keep just in case, but haven't touched in over ten years?  Can't get rid of 'em for obvious reasons - you never know ... the last time I had any, I had an awufl bad flu, and a cuppa poppy tea really, really helped, then I forbade myself a re-up . . .

It's medicine right up until it's not.

Yes -

Consuming poppies is like dating a stripper ... you KNOW this won't end well, but ... damn.  You also know you'll go right back.

I want to grow these for their beauty, but I know me, and I can't have nice things.

I've read great things about tincture for IBS, but It's too slippery of a slope.

Tincture will cure your IBS and everything else that's wrong with you.

Until there's no more tincture, at which point you're smashing your non-dominant had with a garden implement and heading to the ER ...

I'm 20 + years now with the kratom - otherwise I'd be drooling over a poppy garden.  As it is, my folks had a dried poppy pod arrangement setup for the holidays, and I was able to look at it and think, "they have no idea how much those pods are worth."

20+ years ago, I'd have nabbed half those pods and ran home cackling like a maniac.

Pods are a powerful drug.

Having smokable opium on hand is always a great idea.

It peels you back very quickly. And properly reveals your inner gremlins.

But they sure are a very pretty flower. It almost mocks us with its beauty.

You just dont' see the treble hook in threre it's so well placed.  Naww, they are only bad for you if you cant' tell yourself no.  I like the fact that you don't need any processing to make it usable.  No tweaks, no red devil lye, no nothing, just lump it up and smoke it.  It won't hit you anywhere near as bad as a chemical reduction, solvent extraction, and won't leave you drinking woolite in a ditch somewhere.

They are also quite picky about where and when they will grow, like most things that are worth growing.  I have found a real liking for poppy sprouts, in large mats just like falfa ones, on sandwiches and salads.  They will give you a slight buzz and they taste great.  Try to get them to grow, whole nother story.  one out of thousand type success.  even less sometimes.

Good to see you around, Happy.

Truth on the treble hook, and few people I know are successful with "no."

I just swapped media.  Mama didn't raise a quitter.

Oh where love won’t grow
Oh I’ll build my home
And if happiness won’t come to me
Hand me the nitrous gas
Leave the acute warm heartedness
Go where the joyless bastard lives
He’s dying to bring you down with him
Suck in the bright red major key
Spit out the blue minor misery
I’m dying to bring you down with me

Oh, oh, oh, oh
But if happiness won’t come to me
Hand me the nitrous gas
You can keep all of your oxygen
Hand me the nitrous gas
If happiness won’t live with me
I think I can live with that
Keep all of your oxygen
Hand me the nitrous gas

I’m drunk.... boo!
