Yes, I think you are right about keeping them moist. The ones outside this past Summer were getting soaked twice a day by the drip lines and they loved it. Inside though, maybe a little less water.

Dried grain from this post

https://mycotopia.ne...-9#entry1504502

was transfered a couple times then put to a 1/4 pint of oat/rye. The jar was recently transfered to a quart of no-prep wheat. After the quart colonizes. I'll dry the grains again for more testing.

Tagging along. I have these on agar. Saying some prayers for them as they are a few years old

Bad news, the first pins aborted. I relocated my "FC" and these guys sat with no extra lighting or bubbler set up for a couple days.

20221202_234037.jpg

The new spot has brighter full spectrum lighting and the bubblers are running again. Plus I gave the casing and the new mush a solid misting.

Fingers crossed!

Almost screwed this one up! I've been wanting to water the sub but have been up to my ears with other things. I misted the heck out of the mush and casing last night then let the pooling water sit for a bit before draining and taping back up. All of this in front of my HEPA. The mush themselves just look psychedelic, almost Seuss like, except the tall one in back, definitely Dumb Donald vibes.

Amazing work Yoshi. My fruits looked similar to yours, I think it may be the result of low moisture, lack of FAE or both. Maybe grown in the barrel like you did your other culture they would appear more like wild specimens. How long has it been since these were just pins? Mine took at least a month from pin to spore, probably more like 6 weeks. Beware, these are by far the most potent mushrooms I’ve ever eaten.

Some of my outdoor SC caerulescens had the octopus like caps too just much healthier looking. I hope I can get these to fruit outside in a trashcan, when the weather warms. I did make trashcans of caer and zap 'CN' this past fall so who knows?

I noticed the pins on Dec 3rd so I've got a ways to go! These are stronger than Semps/subtrop? I think you once said 25 or 30g fresh semps would change your life forever, what would be that dose for caerulescens?

For context the largest dose of subtropicalis I’ve ever taken was 4 grams dried—a ridiculously powerful but tortuous experience, though probably only the 2nd most powerful trip of my life if I had to rate them. My most powerful trip was the result of eating only 2.5g of subtropicalis. However, there were several factors that contributed to the immensity of that experience. For two weeks before the ceremony I refrained from all other intoxicants, caffeine, sex, and meat, and I fasted for two days prior. I was also bathing in cedar water the whole time with the intention of interfacing with the spirit of the cedar tree. It also took place in a remote area in the forest. During that trip I found that I was temporarily able to control the flow of time somewhat, after which I was forcefully ejected from my body and began to experience the evolution of biological life beginning from a single-called organism, to a worm, to various aquatic animals and mammals all the way up to a primate, and then I felt myself being physically reborn into my body at the pinnacle of evolution. I also perceived the history of psychedelic use and altered states of consciousness among various peoples of the world (ranging from ancient Egyptians to American First Nations to modern North Americans) and witnessed all the various art forms and symbols accumulated and created in these states. There’s a lot more to tell about that but I’ll save it for another time.

I find that the context in which they’re eaten plays the largest role in how an experience will unfold, but I can objectively say that this caerulescens culture is extremely potent, probably close to double the potency of subtropicalis, and maybe 4-5x cubensis. It’s a lot more than just increased potency though… compared to cubes, caerus are like a different substance altogether. Most notably they create a very strong effect in the body (which can come through somewhat with other species too but only at much higher doses IME). I ate slightly less than 1.5g of the caerulescens (just under 3g split with my girlfriend) and it was ludicrously potent. I almost lost total control of my body as I watched gold and jewel-encrusted dendrites descending from the ceiling and entering into me. I quite literally felt my physical form being penetrated by subatomic particles which organized themselves as these roots and seemed to weave and vibrate their way through every cell of my body. I actually don’t think I’m ready to know what might have happened if I had eaten the full 3g. As always though, YMMV!

Wow Don, thank you so much for sharing!

Definitely set, setting and intention too, shape the journey. I've been needing a trip back to the forest for some time now. Thank you for the warning too, I've read different things and some are in the 3-4g range for heavy dose, yikes!

I wonder if there are differences between the SC vs CN?

It’s possible that my fruits were particularly potent because they took what seems was an unusually long time to mature. Some of them were still immature when harvested too, which as we know usually means a more potent fruit. I can’t speak to differences between strains as the CN strain is the only one I’ve sampled, but I have heard that the landslide (derrumbe) variety is more potent than the variety that grows on compost. The CN is the landslide variety.

Well, with holiday and family obligations, I forked up my caerulescens grow. The sub started to dry and mushrooms began to abort. I did catch it in time to attempt a couple swabs but I haven't tested them yet. I also managed a couple clones from the stipes which hadn't degraded to far. The mush, I dried then crumbled into some 130 proof moonshine (from a friend) that I added a pinch of citric acid to. After a week in the freezer, it was filtered and tested. There was about 4g of mush in 36ml alcohol. 2ml gave a lvl 1+ trip, next time, 10ml.

Wow, that’s definitely a solid confirmation of the potency of this strain. I look forward to hearing about your next try at a higher dose.

I finally spawned my buckets last night! I used two 3-gallon ice-cream pails with 2 inches of crush gravel at the bottom, and then filled the bucket halfway with compost and a quart of rye grain-spawn. They are both incubating at 78F. Once colonized I’ll add an inch of casing and install the automatic watering system.

Good luck, I can't wait to see your results.

Does anyone here think that these would grow outdoors in Southern coastal Oregon? We have very mild weather all year. Winters are are only cool, the summers aren't hot.

Looking to get a few more outdoor beds of shrooms that fruit in a season that isn't winter

Definitely give it a try, especially the genetics from Georgia or South Carolina.
