Drum/barrel growing rocks...I drill the bottoms with a 3/8" bit, full of holes and do as Yoshi described......line the bottom with screen or cloth and keep the slugs and all out, pea gravel gives good drainage, compost and top soil, subs of all kinds.....lids made of screen can be attached over them and also covered with a burlap bag and drip irrigated too....

They're perfect for controlled outdoor cultivation and testing.....I'm hoping my hens fruit again this fall....glad to see others try it.....

So very grateful for all the excotics threads.   I had asked Mah several years ago to add exotic section but oh well.  I like it when google to just know what people are talking about.  Good job!! Good vibes

You should grab some local used burlap or coffee bags. Might be a nice closed/open environment.

Cloth pots have worked well for me too.

Here are a few of the dried stipes, the metallic brass, copper and blue colors are even more incredible in person!

I went ahead and switched to drip line instead of sprinklers. This pic is of a new panaeolus can that i added drip to. I'll be keeping an eye on all of them.

Great stuff! I ‘ve had my grows get decimated by contams so I’ll have to wait until I get more caerulescens spores or agar, whenever that is. I’ll have to make up agar plates to ensure I don’t run out like this again. Maybe the next time I make it to Huautla. Sigh.
But again hats off to DonShadow and YoshiTrainer!

That is unfortunate Friendscat! If we are both very lucky, I might be able to share spores in the future. I have 'Chicon Nindo' caerulescens going to bulk this evening, fingers crossed!

I found these this morning, I swear they were not there yesterday! These are the SC strain from the trashcan above. I'm spawning 'Chicon Nindo' to bulk tonight and view this as a sign of good luck!

I went ahead and made a LC from one of the old plates because I'm impatient and didn't want to wait for the spores to grow... It's it a fluffy cloud growing at a roughly normal pace (perhaps it's the stir bar assist that making it seem vigorous?). I will still utilize the spores I just started once they grow out, but for now I can hopefully get this going again. I'm also going to use a higher spawn:sub ratio this time. Grain is soaking right now.

That would be wonderful YoshiTrainer! Thank you.
I’ve put off going the agar route due to all the cloning stuff (I’m not sure it’s good to clone your elders), but now I’m thinking since Caerulescens is slow to colonize and fruit, agar May aid in the race against contaminants.

I pitched a pint jar of 'Chicon Nindo' last night, it smelled wonderful! The sub is straw, compost, Wpoo, presoaked fuel pellets, water and a touch of chicken feed. The Zappotecorum 'CN' I put on the same sub type a few days ago seems to like it. I'll make another Caerulescens 'CN' sub later this week with CV+fuel pellets.

Here is the South Carolina Caerulescens today.

Yes, I absolutely love the smell of derrumbes myself. I can’t believe how the smell goes right to one’s core.

You’re an inspiration Yoshi! Those are absolutely beautiful. Sadly my whole bag stalled out so I harvested all the fruits at about half maturity. Still got a decent yield which I’m grateful for, but it looks like in-vitro fruiting doesn’t quite suffice. I think they need a constant supply of moisture to grow to maturity.

With that said, I did finally get a very solid clone culture going and I have several jars of new grain ready to go to sub so I ain’t giving up yet!

Thank you Don, that sucks your bag stalled but at least you were able to harvest something and get a clone to boot!

Next update, I'll add a Sharpie for size reference, these are big, Mother Nature is rocking it! I have a couple 'CN' caerulescens and zapotecorum from a kind friend that are on bulk now, might have to try trashcans with them too!

Good luck!

A quick update, I've been waiting for spores but so far, nothing. I've been waiting so long, a Sharpie grew from the top.
