Wow Nichrome, those are beautiful! What type of sub do you have them on?

I had to pull them, I think my "depths of Hell" temperatures were too much. Some of the pileus were starting to shrivel and dry. The biggest mush was around 60g, thick wall but hollow core stipes, the smaller mush had solid stipes. No spores though, I wonder if the heat may have caused that? Sorry, forgot the Sharpie. :)

It was coir/verm with a coir casing. I added the pine duff from the forest floor and the strawberry clover seeds when I saw the mycelium poking up through the casing... The tray had a dome and has been outside under cover in the shade. The spore prints I made are light.

I spawned some of the same culture to on of my garden beds under a big burdock plant. It has colonized all the soil very nicely and we have been getting rain so I hope to see a few come out of the ground.

Those ones you did in that can look meaty. Nice job with those.

I gave the substrate in the trashcan a solid hand mixing then flooded it with water. Maybe the "landslide" treatment or the slight cooling of the weather but about a week later, I found a pin! If it continues, this will be the third flush after some time off.

Made a trashcan today with 2 clean subs of caerulescens 'Chicon Nindo". A little bagged compost below and on the sides then topped with cacti soil. I also made a zapotecorum 'CN' trashcan but forgot the pic, it looked similar to this caer pic.

I’ve got a few questions for you Yoshi:

When you place your colonized blocks in the barrel and fill with compost, do you incubate before casing or case right away? Do you start watering right away? Are those 1/4 perforated irrigation lines or do you just poke holes in solid lines?

I’m setting up a couple of my own caerulescens “barrels”, but I’m going to experiment with large 3 gallon ice-cream pails instead of barrels. I’ve considered trying a gravity feed drip watering setup on a timer, or just an ultrasonic humidifier (which can make things very moist in a small volume chamber).

Thanks for sharing your success and letting us know what worked well for you.

Thank you Don. I put the trashcan together all at once, including casing, filling in and pressing around the sub too. Using my water hose and a shower like nozzle I give the can a thorough soak to the point of standing water. After draining, add a sprinkle of soil to any bare mycelium, clamp some plastic over the top and say a quick prayer to the mushroom gods.

Good luck Don!

Drums please! My next experiment is going to be using BIG terracotta pots inside a drum.....

Myco Mistress already demonstrated the amazing response from multiple woodlovers doing such.....

I'm confident that Oysters and many others will grow this way.....where there's water and high RH with food...there's fungi....

The possibilities are seemingly endless.....we gain control of just about everything....except maybe temperature....

NOICE!

PS: The maitake barrel thread shows how I'm doing it as well....same thing, block in the center, fill around with compost/topsoil, thin casing of fertilized potting soil (casing of choice by species)

"Barrel heads" or whatever that represents be it tubs, drums, coolers, 24" PVC pipes, drain tiles, and on and on and on.....

The reason I’ve chosen to use large ice-cream pails is so that I can place them in my tiny grow-closet in my office, which is such a small space that temperature is easily regulated with a thermostat and mini space-heater. Presently looking into options for gravity feed watering. A simple rectangular seedling tray is placed under the buckets to catch the drainage. Once I have everything set up I’ll post pictures.

I just ordered this nifty wifi watering system: https://www.amazon.c...AMPCTP6HQ5RAG_0

My caeru blocks are ripe and ready to bucket-ize so once this gadget arrives on the weekend I’ll get set up.

Hells yah buddy! Amazing work! Great to know that this strain responds well to the barrel method. Here’s hoping you get some honkers and prints!

Amazing! You’ve got the magic touch sir. In my experience they grow very slowly… pretty sure my mistake was under watering so maybe a good idea to keep them very moist.
