Around here it's dangerous just to go outside at night.  It's rutting season for moose, and we've got a young bull (the fork horn I shared pics of) that is running around here raising hell.   He's already attacked and damaged a couple of parked pickups, and chased a few people around.  I worry about him running up on me every time I go to the wood pile. (it down to 21* tonight, and I don't like to pay for gas when I've got beetle killed trees to burn)

He is way sub legal to hunt yet, so even if you had to kill him in self defence, it still wouldn't be legal to keep the meat.

Around here we run the night. Always
I just need that country that humbles me like that. Cuz I talk too much. Would never kill if I couldn't keep meat there anyway I know it can become dofferent.

Nah man, this is great reading. Hogs are my actual bane, they've been making some of my favorite trails a nuisance. Moose are far scarier but I agree, I'd swap hogs for moose any day. Moose are pretty. At least then there'd be some majesty to my death. You get any deer man? Also, you make your own shine?

Is cool cuz I cant tell if juthro is talking about me or the moose until I realize I'm not 500lb. Haha. Yeah them Sounders is nasty. They will cut u up. With the moose I'd imagine you made a mistake and put urself in the danger zone. With hogs in a swamp them fuckers scary. I cant tell. No experience with moose so I cant say. I hear they nasty shit tho

For the most part moose aren't aggressive.  Most problems are caused by to close of contact, either from ignorance, or accident.   Sometimes there can be an aggressive moose that is looking for trouble, but this is  the exception, not the rule.     Give em their space, don't get between mama and her young,  and watch out for bulls during rut season.   Your pretty safe if you follow those rules.

Another factor with moose is they hate dogs, wolves are their natural predator, and they see all dogs as the enemy.  Bad encounters are often set off by people walking their dogs, and a moose becomes enraged and tries to kill it.

The other big bitch about moose is if you hit one with your rig.   They have such long legs that they tend to come over the hood, and then through the windshield when hit.  It's often fatal for both moose, and motorest.  During the winter they like to travel on the roads, cuz it's much easier for them to travel on then plodding through deep snow.

So not to get to far off topic in xlcor's thread, here is a fun song to whistle, or at least listen to.  From our Canadian neighbor Lorne Elliot, I present you with, Morris the Moose.

Not a lot of dogs used in hunting here, you can get a permit to use dogs to track, and tree bears, but that's about the limit of their legal use (to the best of my knowledge)
