Haha.. well... I’ve still only (in my eyes) confirmed the one.. pea+. But I do have 2 PE/pfrs f2 1/2 pint cv about to pin in a water tub. If I see both purple and red spore fruits, I’m calling that one. The PE/RW is obvious to me along with the PE/crs. The only ones I’m not going to be sure about are the most recent PE/pesa and PE/apeu (I’ll have more pics of the PE/apeu tonight.. no white fruits yet). Apeu is such an awesome variety and already has PE genes so I don’t think I’m going to mess with it.. mainly just seeing what happens. Anyway... good luck! Don’t forget the pre dunk of sterile water and get your rub on!

Here’s the PE/apeu cakes.. really thought I’d see some white pins, but that’s been par for the course with these cross cakes. At any rate, looks like it’s gonna be decent flushes :). Gonna jar print one in case I want to play with them in the future but I’m really excited to do a bunch of straight apeu in the fall. Apeu myc is really tomentose, so maybe that’s what’s going on at the bottom of the cakes.. who knows lol

Some comparison pics:

Is it a cross? me thinks so but F2 should be interesting

Pea+ f4 tester jars.. definitely a few light colored pins in there but looks like I’m narrowing down the gene pool... I used a lot of spores for these.. same with the PE/pfrs f2 jars below. They’re slow growin.. usually means potent fruits so that’s cool

PE/pfrs f2 testers.. just starting to knot decently.. probably gonna add a thin cv layer in a day or so when I see the first pins.. REALLY hoping I see both purple and red spored fruits from these jars.. the spores used were purple

Almost done! Definitely bittersweet

I just re-read the original method and you are "double swabbing" each individual swab. I only have a couple vendor swabs of these strains so that would not be your tek but I don't see why the spores solution wouldn't be intermixed either way. I'll give it a shot anyway.

also is it that you need to take these crosses to f2+ to see the traits?

Yeah that should work.. they’ll mix... there’s just more layers (4 instead of 2) when you swab on top of each other.

Yeah the F2 will/should have fruits that express traits of both varieties you swabbed.. PE/aa+ F2 bins/bags for example:

See how there’s AA+ and PE blended fruits.. the pheno I picked to take to the f3 was the big one in the middle of this f3 bag...
9AF305BA-D100-432B-A621-C222E54FD5AE.jpeg

then just keep picking that pheno every time to go to the next gen and by f7 or f8, you should have a tub full of just that pheno and it’s stable

Alright.. PE/apeu cakes finished. The cake with the smaller fruits definitely have a mixed appearance of both PE and apeu.. all of them dropping spores

The 2 cakes dried down to 12.9g! Pretty good for some mixed ms cakes. Really think using CV instead of just verm in the cake recipe makes a big difference. All my cakes have produced better since I started using cv.

that's quite a haul from 2 cakes for sure. What size are they they looks tall but thin. Jelly jars or summin? Or just half pint reg mouths.

Yeah they’re tall 1/2 pints.. couldn’t find the shorties.. they’re definitely a PITA.. I usually have to wait extra time for the bottoms to colonize. I’ll be switching to the wide mouth assuming they’re going to be available when I go buy them

Pea+ f4 getting there... so far none look like they want to give up their spores... I was afraid of that. I REALLY want a lineage that drops spores.. they’ve been getting fewer and fewer fruits each gen. Still have a chance with some of these but it’s looking like I’m going to have to go swabs from here on out. :(
C54F3B3E-A47C-4807-9E93-64711CF3507C.jpeg

PE/pesa second flush cake.. looks like there’s lipstick mold going on all over the cake.. really just took these to another flush to see if anything different popped out.. looking like pesa.. but at the same time, I’m having a hard time thinking only pesa took over the whole cake.. there was about the same amount of spores from both varieties on the swabs.. these are gonna be a tough one

PE/pfrs purple spore F2 pinning. Really hoping for both red and purple spores from these fruits.. that in my mind would prove the purple spores used to inoculate these was a hybrid. Last project for the year. :(
7A3E52B8-0D3A-4C7B-949B-CEAB65017CB5.jpeg

Took those 4 cv 1/2 pint pea+ f4 and dunked them.. I have a feeling they’re not going to pin from the top again, so threw 2 of them into quart jars with a sandwich baggie with needle holes poked in it to give them more room on the sides... I call it the “fack it” tek lol
1B18FAB9-7551-43EE-ABEA-C2B751172E2D.jpeg

It actually works surprisingly well (at least the one other time I’ve done it)

9B6CE54D-6321-451F-9322-F4CDC3E55844.jpeg D145412E-C6F4-4A11-BED3-37D16C7F3115.jpeg 601F8717-4C35-4E9B-8ADB-1FA3FC105FCC.jpeg

Could probably also just throw them in a gallon ziplock with holes and get similar results.. however you want to “fack it”, it’ll probably work lol

Man.. it seems like these PE/pfrs f2 are taking forever.. definitely longer than just pfrs take.. one of the “downfalls” to infusing PE into other varieties is it usually slows pinning times down.. I use quotes for downfall because I do believe there is a correlation between slow pinning times and potency so I guess it’s a bittersweet.. especially now since all I want to know is if they’re gonna drop some rust spores.

I don’t even necessarily want a print (I’d rather do a larger F2 grow later on—I’ve got the f1 print jarred up)... I just want to know if I have a hybrid. Show me the goods DAMN YOU! lol
DA342144-16E5-445F-BC55-FB84BBBCE586.jpeg

There’s already a bunch of variance in pin/cap shapes... that tall one is a pretty unusual pin.. super lanky with a really round cap lol

Alright... so, no red spores yet (not expecting to see any from the few that still need to mature). So I’m not satisfied saying they’re a hybrid but I’ll do a large scale tub in the fall with the other “f1’s” to get a better picture. But they sure do look like pfrs..

F5D3509D-1575-484A-87D0-516BA0C7D6FD.jpeg EDFA4FB0-038F-4D5E-A03F-6CE46BA12E75.jpeg C6F86D3B-136A-4796-B834-BC26E3F189F7.jpeg 0DB599E8-BFF7-4FC0-84BB-C39E782B8A71.jpeg

They all have the PE stem bumps and took forever (made the jars 4/15)
C0B09270-E33F-4484-960F-C84FA4342CD9.jpeg

Here’s straight pfrs
A8349FFF-08F1-42D3-9ECA-8E32C80D7981.jpeg

I think they’re a hybrid but I won’t be satisfied until I see some red spores.. that’s the whole goal after all. Could also be that pfrs just isn’t the variety that’s gonna give me the white whale that is a red spore PE... I still have suspected hybrids of PE/RW and PE/crs that I honestly would like more.. they’ve give larger fruits and that’s more preferable than a bunch of small fruits that these ^^^ are giving me.

These later maturing fruits look like straight PE.. don’t know if that’s because these are all PE in different phenos because of ms or if they’re because of the variations you see in an F2 grow.

86479E48-0A08-44F6-9997-E939C210092D.jpeg

Even if this is just PE, the fact that it isn’t blobbing without a casing could be something that I can isolate. Iso out the blob. That’d be cool.. again, I still think it’s a hybrid but I’m keeping an open mind to other possibilities. This is why using a leucistic as one of the varieties is helpful.. F2 is easier to distinguish

Last pics of the season...

Not much difference with the PE/pfrs jar.. definitely PE genes.. caps aren’t gonna open up anymore and they’re solid

One of the fack it jars fruited mainly from the bottom cake.. I should’ve just covered it with press n seal and added the baggie after they needed room. Just ditched the other jars’ subs.. oh well. Fack it!

Tore everything down (man does that feel good). Twas a good season! Already looking forward to October! Pea+ will get finished and hopefully I’ll get a good head start on the other stablizations.
