I also use wheat.

I just use coco coir and verm (CV) for the substrate. You’ll probably get slightly larger fruits with straw manure but those are also exponentially more prone to contamination than CV ime. CV is ridiculously easy compared to leaching/pasteurizing manure and straw. With CV, you literally boil the correct amount of water with weighed out coir and measured out verm and let cool and you’re done.. it’s also very hard for mold to germinate on coir alone so as long as your grain spawn is clean, you shouldn’t have any problem getting to multiple flushes before it contaminates.

But to each their own.. I can give ya the CV recipe if you’d like. I like coco bliss brand coir but a lot of brands work fine.

I allow FAE during colonization… it doesn’t harm anything and closing off substrates while they colonize and making it an anaerobic environment only invites existing contaminates to bloom, ime. Putting in fruiting conditions right away doesn’t cause premature pinning, nor does light.. that’s outdated info.

I’ve had temps 65F - 75F throughout the whole process work fine. Anything above 75F also invites contam blooms ime. The lower temps might slow things down slightly but it’s not worth the risk to go above 75F

FP+ doesn’t require a casing but does improve pinning slightly but I got better pinning using a compressed CV 1” (after compression) top layer. You can throw a 1/2” CV layer on top of the sub and it’ll do great. You can do the bare minimum and pay little attention (once having a dialed in passive FAE container) to the sub and still get a hood flush with these guys… they love to pin

Basically they grow like any other cube… you do what you have in the past with other varieties, you’ll do fine :)

@yosh.. excited you got germ!

Thanx for all the helpful details. I would appreciate the CV recipe too. Can hardly wait to get started, before the summer temperatures start to escalate.

Take it from a Manure Sub guy that I am (I started with CV in the beginning), CV is the easiest way to be successful and I've hydrated it straight from the tap with Hot water with No issues.  Doesn't get any easier than that to spawn to bulk.  Another wonderful aspect of Coir is if you overhydrate, you can squeeze out the excess water and never skip a beat in the process.  RR nailed it a long time ago telling folks you can use it for bulk grows, does well as a casing, truly a staple in any MC's Arsenal.  "Follow the Rabbit"

Coco coir: 650gm
Boiling Water: 16 cups (1 gallon)
Vermiculite: 2 quarts (8 cups)

I use a smallish cooler to mix it in or lots of ppl use a 5 gallon bucket.. use a new bucket or at least one you don’t use for any kind of grain work.

If you need to only make a single quart of CV, I use a 1/16” of that^^^ recipe and mix in a medium mixing bowl:

40g coir
1 cup boiling water
1/2 cup vermiculite

You're overthinking cubes, they like being choked. Most are using straight coir now.

LC and agar are interchangeable for most just omit agar for LC. 0.5-1% nutrition. Most don't use karo or honey anymore.

The standard recipe is 10g malt, 10g agar, 500mL water. I typically go much lower on agar/sugar.

Temperature and fresh air really isn't important with cubes.

  Thanks, RF. I probably have been overthinking 'shrooms, due to other issues I was avoiding, that I really must deal with first.

Last night, I harvested some PE/APEU cross . Thankfully I have more subs coming because I was days late getting to these. My hope was to track down the "zombie eye" pheno and culture it. Instead I had a giant spore covered mess so, no clones or prints. As I was pulling fruits, they held onto the sub tightly and ended up ripping up the sub pretty bad. I was going to flip the sub but it was so damaged, I took the opportunity to crumble and biopsy it. (It was pretty dry) I then releveled the sub, gave it a soak and pretended like nothing happened....it is probably already green by now. :)

After a goof up, I should have some FP+ coming soon.

Well, the tubs above recovered from being crumbled and fruited again for me. There are some really pretty phenos in these genetics! Unfortunately this tub was also filled w/fungus gnats so it was tossed. The other crumbled tub will probably get harvested tomorrow.

I always get so excited when I see that you’ve posted in this thread and you never disappoint! Nice fruits! Especially since you crumbled and refruited.. very cool :)

So I’ve given out 90+ swab sets of the FP+ in the last couple months (mostly on shroomery) and the grows from those members are starting to come out. Pretty excited.. I’m like a proud grandpa. Lol

Mono from OMC member shroomoisseur (this is “second” flush as the first one aborted @ the pinning stage because he had to hide the tub in a hot af shed for a couple days lol)

Thank you Faht!

My FP+ were just G2G to pint jars, so hopefully just a couple weeks behind.

Got that SICK ASS stem crinkle crackin' in that Mono.  Shout out to the Shroomery folks, Franks work taught me just as much as this place has even when I just lurked (both sites).  I still pasteurize very similar to his style to this day.  Easy as pie in Jars.  Bags just take longer to get there is all, and MUCH longer to cool.  I have my FP+ on STANDBY Sir and ready to FIRE at will.     I'll do an MS Vs a T1 for gits and shiggles.  Won't be for awhile since I'm on a Walkabout this time of year, but the season comes back around FAST.  Guessing Late September, October(ish) hopefully.  Can't wait to run something you created, really exciting.  Stay UP Fungus Fam.

I've had fungus gnats a few times in the Martha tent, definitely lets you know too much moisture (is it Raining in here).

I’m a big fan of the wrinkle cap pheno.. I’ve tried cloning them once but it didn’t show back up.. I don’t think it was a big grow tho but it’d be cool if that pheno could be stabilized

The wrinkle caps had nice points to them. I've more subs on the way so I'll try cloning one next time to see if it carries over.

Sorry Faht, I haven't eaten any cubes in awhile. I made chocolates for Christmas last year that had PE, APEU & PE/APEU ground up in them. Apparently they were pretty awesome! :)
