If you think yours looks bad, look at one of my last PE tubs.. https://mycotopia.ne...1613615971.jpeg. Lol. PE just looks crazy when it’s mature. You can probably pick a little sooner but they’re definitely good to go like that. Just from past experience, I’d wager your tub weighs 2oz+ dry. You done did good, grasshopper

Wait why is it dead? Those look just right for picking.. that’s how PE looks when it’s ready haha.

Well, I was waiting for the rest of them to completely open up like yours always do, but only the first one ever got that "twirling skirt" shape.

The overflow from my dehydrator I put on a plate in front of a fan, ran some errands, then came back and cleaned them and added them to the dehydrator. I didn't get a wet weight, but I'll post the dry weight when I know it.

Gotcha.. I’ve gotten pretty lucky with some of my cultures.. it’s fairly common for PE to keep the bell shape and not open up all the way.

The blue from the water of the gills will lighten up in a day or two as well and you’ll be able to tell how much spores you got on your swabs.. forgot to say that.

Swabbing was great... So fast and simple. I don't think I'll mess with spore prints again.

Sorry to backtrack. Did you try bottom watering at all? That made my PE perk back up, mine literally aborted out as I increased FAE towards the end. Little bottom water and the aborts started growing which lead to cracking in the dried out caps.

Lol I feel bad I told ya to increase FAE and it dried it out. I live in a pretty humid part of the world though.. even during the winter.

It's all about learning to balance your climate. I'm sure me speedreading your initial post and doing 1/2 the casing had a bigger effect.

Doesn't really belong here but I had a wild idea to use the double casing for my king oysters that abort out, similar physical shape...

I did some bottom watering, but the tub was lined so I couldn't just pour some in, wait an hour, then pour the rest out. Also, with the tub being lined, condensation from the walls didn't go back into the sub, so I was losing more water than I'm used to, and I think PE just crank through the water anyway. I may make some additional modifications to the tub and do the next one unlined.

That won't happen until for a bit yet. I'm definitely going for a second flush from this tub, I have another tub going, and two mycobags. I've let the Pastywhyte straw bags dry out for now, but I'll get back to those in a bit.

Nah, no reason to feel bad. One learns these things by doing. And if I didn't have PE swabs to begin with, I never would have learned any of this at all.

I made 4 of these exactly 2 months ago and 1 looks fully colonized maybe bacterial, 1 didn't colonize at all, the other 2 are showing little patches that never colonized.

May case one with straight verm and other with a seedling mix. Rest will go to the earth.

1.4 oz dry. The fruits that I put in the dehydrator immediately stained dark like ink... the ones I put in front of a fan until I had time to deal with them stayed a nice color. Maybe, if I have some spare time lying around, I can fan fruits to dry the outsides a little before putting them in the dehydrator. I had the same staining issue with ApeR, but not GT or B+.

Was that a 16qt or a shoe box? Interesting about the staining.

16 qt. The mush were kind of "sweaty" so maybe it was easy for some psilocybin to work it's way to the surface as the temp went up to 150 F. I had a similar experience with some ApeR that I'd rinsed off before putting them in the dehydrator. The mush that were fan dried for an hour or two were completely dry on the outside when they went in the dehydrator.

Sorry to bump your thread JRH, you're taking a break from the straw?

I just cased two of these jars as they smelled and looked fine! Two of them show no growth, as soon as the ground thaws they are getting buried.
