I've been working with Hericium erinaceus for a few years now from the same colony. It came from a reliable vendor.
 

I recently traded a plate of my Hericium and received a syringe labeled H. Erinaceus  Sample was foraged in Washington state. I also recieved H. Americanus (but that's for a later time!)
 

Like usual, I didn't label my initial start date. Proceeded to waste whole syringe on agar. I always do this and store one plate in the fridge. Next time I think I will go straight to slant as well.

In a month or so hopefully I have some new pom-poms to eat and can compare my two different genetics.

Only issue I'm having with LM is collecting spores, I can't seem to get them to sporulate even if I waste a lions mane and don't get to eat it :(
I know with how often I'm enjoying these guys this might be only time I hit sensence.
 

my old colony, maybe 80 transfers out? Maybe 15, 5 pound blocks produced.
 

One of my favorites to watch grow, looks like ice or snow flakes.
 

The whole syringe

Trying my first LC run for gourmets as well. Just started showing a tiny snowflake in my LC jar, along with tons of cat hair. It's fine lions love kitties.

Nice specimens! That's what my LC looks like on agar at around a few days.
Is your old colony still a good producer having been through 80 transfers?
I plan on laying some black paper or plastic under them to try to collect some of those elusive spores. Have you tried cutting the humidity way down to up the spore production?

Old colony seems fine, just wasn't sure what happens as I go further out and wanted to have a redundancy. Have slants from about T2, so can always revisit these genetics.

It's arid here so I've let them go brown without collecting any meaningful spores.

I've heard tying the tinfoil/paper/plastic under a tooth can work.

Funny enough I lived in Roanoke for a brief stint. Never did find it though.

Damn, so all my T1's show a green mold. Plenty of germ plates/slants to remedy this. I put my original lions mane in cold storage so I can focus on the differences with this new sample.

My original lions mane is going to masters mix tomorrow. I'll probably be able to make about four 5lb blocks. My goal is to print these, I keep cloning the same fruit, so want some variety.

after posting picture, realized there's an oyster looking all dense in front.

I should also have a block of king oyster and a block of lions mane finishing up some time this week.

germ plate came out of cold storage 24 hrs ago. The biggest fruits were transferred (hopefully cloned).

This agar is 7g agar to 10g MEA with 500g H2O

It's sticky sticky so I can get away with inverting these 100x bigger then normal agar transfers.

It'll go right to grain on T1 if it's clean.

Put some more grain to master's mix.

Cut some X's on a bag. Also cased some King Oyster for the first time.

 

This jar looks so off, I'm afraid to open it. It was labeled as lion's mane. (reminds me of reishi, but I haven't worked with reishi in 6 months).

Oysters ripped through the casing, just waiting for my basement to get cold enough to fruit.

 

I cut some small x's on my lions mane to induce fruiting, but not sure if I cut too early. Usually I wait for a fruit and cut a hole for it's escape.

Yeah I'm with you about the jars. The left one looks like all the lions mane jars I've seen. The right one... not so much. What's your plan with that mystery jar?

Looked like reishi, spawned it to sawdust and it smelled of mush.

My lions mane is finally fruiting where I pre-cut X's. Some discoloration to the block so I'm going to cut back on my humidity and increase FAE.

My cased oysters are producing the worst flush I've had from oysters. I'm lucky if I get one fruit.

Oysters really took off last night. Still not seeing much cap formation. Haven't grown many oysters and don't have a great setup. Just in the basement with top cut off unicorn bag.

I suck at not getting sawdust on the walls of the bag, you can see tiny primodoria growing on the sides of bag.

Lions mane is pomming but slower then I'm used to (this is the old culture, new culture is eating some sawdust currently)

Have 4 5lb blocks of King's finishing and 3 5lb blocks of Lions mane finishing colonizing. Will be hopefully putting to fruit in 2-3 weeks.

I must be too impatient with my lions mane. I thought that it wouldnt get completely white and covered when colonized. No wonder im having so much trouble. Thanks for showing the pics there. I can deduce that i need to wait my ass off a bit longer before i introduce to FC, from your logs. Excuse me while i go kick myself in the ass.

These may show some pinning, gonna give it another day to be sure. Usually it will fruit in the bag, then I let the sucker escape.
If you cut too early it seemed to take 3 weeks for fruits to form, my fruit from cutting early is not the best looking one I've seen. So I'd say best to wait for fruit formation before FAE

Literally every bag of KO I've grown I get 2-3 decent fruits...Casing is the way! I just need to learn to control my RH looks like I'm blotching :(

 

I just babysat a coworkers Shiitake log, he might have got the idea from the various gourmets I've given him over the years.

Anyways I cloned that motherfucker, and spore printed it. Now I have Shiitake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spoke too soon, they all dried out! I rolled my bag down slightly to give a bit more FAE towards base. When I got home today they aborted out.

Got a bunch of bags finishing colonizing, so hopefully I can dial in my winter grow (16% RH, and super low tech setup).
