So this is what happens when equal parts of Cube and Pan cyan spawn are well mixed and poured into these 5 inch trays...
Cubes are def dominating the scene with a rather nice pinset, each tray has 2 or 3 cyan pins and they are much smaller than normal...
It was my hope that by mixing the two - it would result in a more contam resistant and stronger substrate....Oh well...

Maybe i should try a 80/20 mix what do ya think....?

Those are some nice FAT pins you got there. Golly! golly I'm impressed. I didn't think that with the anti fungal chemicals that each mushrooms put out to prevent competition from others would have allowed both types of mycelium to intermingle and fruit . :kewl: I'd like to see the results of the contam resistance of the sub myself. Thanks for sharing!

Neat experiment!

Maybe layer them? Could the faster/bigger/stronger cubes push through the Pans?

That's an interesting idea Bucky ...Pans always pin first and would be best on top ,,,Maybe a cube layer then a square of toilet paper and Cyans to top it off ...
Might as well stick an MJ seed in the middle
for a gift that keeps on giving ...:D

Thanx Arezap...At first the Cube pins looked like they were going to produce miniture shrooms but are swelling up nicely now - i guess the network is becoming more connected with time...

24 hrs later and growing rapidly now ,these SA's are taking over .A couple of Pans remain but if anything the presence of the Pan mycelia has helped with the Cube pinning...Maybe the cubes felt threatened and pinned like mad...
The third tray had a speck of trich gouged out and is now doing fine...
They do look like Tex Laz...either way i'll eat em up....

Killer flushes!

I'm wondering if the stress will have any impact on potency of either shroom.

I love those colors by the way. That warm brown/tan of the caps is really pretty. But those little Pans look so lonely!

Great thread, man.

Yeah, good stuff! I'll grow a lot more Pans if you can get that contam ratio down! Great idea Golly!

Heyyyyyyyyy! I'd be willing to be money that the panaeolus would pin in the open air along with the cubensis. The panaeolus would use the micro-climate provided from the cubensis mushrooms to pin. I may try it.

Thanx , i think this is worthy of more experimentation, with a control group...Also the 80/20 idea and Bucky's layering proposal..

Although i'm not happy to admit it,, the three trays that were pure Cyan spawn all contammed - so this does lend some credence to the idea that the Cube spawn mix creates a more resistant environment ...

I suspect the cause of their demise was that there was some uncolonized
spawn material when mixed up with the pooooo...[what a newb, eh..!]

Well this isn't quite what i expected but i can't complain...
For a 1.5 inch deep substrate and multispore, they're pretty prolific...
I did harvest an actual Pan cyan or two...heh..

the layer approach sounds interesting,
i'd be sure to pick before sporulation
as i hear spore deposits inhibit fruiting

That would be the only problem with fruiting them both in one container.

That really looks nice Golly!

Layering or species succession would be the way to go. Particularly the latter, imo.

Normally the Pans would be beginning to sporulate as the Cube pins were pushing up...That experiment is about 10 days out...Using PG/GT...

You can't complain???

Dude, with a harvest like that from those little trays, I'd be doing a happy dance!!

Seriously, nice work and a damned good thread. I'm very much interested in seeing how it turns out.
