We've had her since just after she was weaned, a little over 17 years, it was just time.   She will be sorely missed.

Is 2020 over yet?

I'm so sorry brother-- it's never easy to lose a four-legged family member...

I laid my last cat to rest in November of 2017 and it still hits me every day when I see her picture we have up-- there's no way to convey to non-pet owners just how meaningful these companions are in our lives.

RIP, little Weasel-- I know you've found some good friends where you've gone

That's 17 years of companionship and good times.

She knows your secrets :)

Count your blessings.

I still talk to my calico and she's been gone 10 years.

Losing a pet is hard, because they aren't just pets they become part of the family. Focus on the good memories, 17years is pretty good lifespan for a cat. You have my condolences.

So sorry to hear that Juthro. Its hard enough to lose the company of a beloved pet anytime, but this time of year makes it a little harder still.........

She had a good life with you, and enriched yours......

It helps to remember the funny things a lost pet had done.

I'll trade you a story Juth.

Golda was the kindest, gentlest animal that ever lived. Live and let live was her motto. She was probably taken from her mother too soon and any raising she got she got from us.

She was an indoor cat by choice but would usually go out every night for an hour or so, I guess to get back in touch with her animal side. Must have been something out there in the dark she could connect to. Otherwise she was quite content to keep my leg warm or just enjoy some quiet in one of her hiding spots.

One night she came inside unannounced ( I'd leave the door open for her to come and go in nice weather) looking absolutely bewildered. That got my attention. Pretty quickly I caught on that she was holding something between the two front paws.

I  asked her what's up and she opened the paws to reveal what must have been a recently born mouse, possibly out on its' first reconnoiter of its' territory.

The look on her face was absolutely priceless. Like - Dad, what do I do now??????????

So I tried to show her how to bat the mouse around a little and did some hand signs to suggest maybe she'd like to eat it. NOPE wasn't having that.

So, I let her see me putting the mouse back outside.

She never brought us another mouse :)

Sorry man, that's the worst. For her sake and for yours, I'm glad you acted when it was time and didn't wait too long.

Sorry for you loss. When the time is right I'm sure you can find another feline/pet to love, or maybe one will choose you.

I'll tell my cats to send you some love, they are definitely in tune with other realities/wavelengths.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes, it has helped me keep my head straight.

I've lost pets before, but this time seems exceptionally rough.  With everything in else in the world seemingly going to hell, that cat was one of my few stable realities.    She would wake my ass up in the morning if I overslept, and she would sing along side me at night when I was singing drinking songs, lol.  She never met anyone who she didn't love, and always wanted to play, even in her old age.  She can never be replaced, and will not be forgotten.

Thank you, Pharmer,  I enjoyed your story, so here is mine.

Weasel could get into a raised cupboard in the bathroom, accessed from the top of the toilet tank.  The cupboard doors has spring hinges, so she could get in the cupboard, and the door would close behind her.   She would sometimes sit there for hours, completely silent.

Anyway, my in laws were visiting from Oregon, and my mother in law, who does not like pets, especially house pets, went in to use the facilities.  From the kitchen I heard the familiar sound of the cupboard door hinges, followed by a loud scream.  When weasel popped the door open she would have been head level to anyone sitting down, and only about 1.5' away, and my mom-in-law had no idea she was in there.  I laughed so hard I cried.

Though after that I warned my mom-in-law that she should also beware of Weasel pushing the shower curtain open, and sticking her head in for a peak, just to see if you were doing a good job, lol.

Nothing like unsolicited cuddles while on the throne!

Sounds like a lovely gal, reminds me of my boy, hiding in cabinets for hours on end and then surprising you when you enter his domain.
