Wanted to get a consensus of one of the caps I harvested... I couldn’t see this hole until after I pulled it. Anyone have some ideas on what this is, if it’s a fruit to be avoided, and/ or what aspect of my conditions could have attributed to this cap cave- in? Appreciate any and all the input from other members!

Hey brotha man, caps just sometimes do weird stuff like that its most likely just a small mutation and or genetics problem nothing to worry about. The only other thing I could imagine is if you are using any kind of cleaning supplies around it besides cleaning vinegar or alcohol. Clorox will do that as well.

I notice caps mutating alot when I'm on like a 5th flush sometimes. But its really nothing to worry about.

A heads up, I personally wait to harvest until basically everything is just about to drop spores or even after. Other ppl like to do just as the majority of mushrooms veil tears.

You could be packing on alot more weight and there is no scientific studies or research proving younger fruitbodies to be more potent although there are plenty anecdotal accounts. I found personally after growing for so long a time I decided i would rather have the extra weight because in the last xouple days they more than double and sometines tripple in size.

Just a mutation like darknchildlike pointed out.

Did you end up giving your substrate a heavy misting? Cause it looks like it still needs one. I'm thinking your fruiting conditions may be off since your sub looks so dry and that stress on the mycelium will cause mutations.

Plus your yield is looking low which is odd for grain spawn (unless its popcorn).

This was grain spawn spawned to bulk right? Or were you using shredded pf cakes to bulk?

Ah, it's to early and I'm to lazy to review your thread lol congrats on the pins though
