I wouldn't even hesitate, wood tea's too, dry them cracker dry and powder them with a mortar and pestle.......
Add like any other additive to an agar mix.........I do

You can.. for sure, put soaked sawdust in agar. You can also make sawdust soak-water and use that as the water in your agar. Alder is really good for using soak-water.

Anyone use oak dowels in slants? My goal is to be able to have a slant culture as well as the dowel for inoculation.
I don't use them in slants but definitely for making plugs. In fact I've put sterilized plugs right on top of colonized agar, it's very slow which is probably good for long term storage. Needles has technique for storing cultures in sterile water. Many ways to skin the cat (not our cat) so to speak......

I was actually looking for a follow-up article when I found that one from 2014.
Unless I'm mistaken, someone else made a thread using popsicle sticks or hobby sticks used for spreading glue and such.
Hyphaenation has a ton of fascinating articles in his catalog. You should give his work a browse.

Here's a fun article to check out:
Old colonized woodlover chips from a long neglected bed will in many cases fire right up when presented new wood food or placed on wet cardboard......
The coffee stirrer in the slants is brilliant......thanks for pointing to that Myc.....
I love it.....need to order some screw cap test tubes methinks....

Used a loop to move some "myc" from the slant to 2 plates. Both turned green within a day, I have such horrible success with loops...

Did you sterilize the loop first?
I sanitize with alcohol the whole handle/loop. Then I flame the whole loop/metal arm. Not sure if the handle can be PC'd though.
