It is monstera season for me! If you haven't tried them, they are delicious, a bit like white pineapple crossed with cherimoya. For people with kidney disease, these are not recommended. When they are unripe, they contain oxalic acid. Unripe they are like licking a 9V battery and chewing fiberglass. The ones in the photo are ripe, you can tell because the scales are falling off, exposing the fruit. Usually you eat the fruit in 1/3rds allowing it to ripen from the bottom up. Some people put them in a paper bag to ripen the entire fruit at once. The little black flakes are not seeds and may be wiped off but aren't very noticeable to eat. The seeds look like green peas and you'll occasionally find them in the fruit. The plant may be propagated by seed or pups and the fruits take around 12 months to grow from flower to fruit.
