According to Alan Rockefeller:

"I got a dna sequence for it - it is 7 nucleotides different from cubensis. So it is it's own species, but closer to cubes than anything else."

Natalensis are as easy to grow as cubes but stronger and seem to be happier experience for most. They look similar to cubes but have their own unique beauty when you see them grow. These definitely need to become more popular!

My last grow, same bulk sub and conditions as cubes. I could use some improvement though, the mini grow made small caps which was expected but so did a larger bag of sub. Maybe a temp issue? How are you growing these beauties?

I was gifted two different prints of these lately-- don't know much about them-- I'll be watching this thread. Is the strength difference related to alk combination or just more alks?

I guess I have some research to do...

I'm in, thanks Yoshi!

Looks like yours did fine without a casing?

I'll give prints away in the VIP area if I have a successful grow, and I imagine other people will as well!

No, it was cased, maybe 1/2" COIR/Verm/Sand, it just at the casing too. :)

The other strain/ species whatever they are is called Playa Uvivta I believe. Anyone can share a pic if you have them?

I should be receiving spore prints of this strainplaya uvivta soonish hopefully and will grow them out and share for sure.

I received prints of these from a kind Topian a little while back. Amazed how similar the mycelium is to cubes. Lost a few attempted jars to trich recently but seem to have one that's looking good. If it does pull through I'll update with my grow. Will be doing standard coir/verm sub and will put a peat casing on. I'll definitely make prints and distribute!

Dropped agar wedges into six jars of oats this morning. Thinking I'll do some small tubs with coir/vermiculite and some with worm castings/straw.

Beautiful pics Yoshi! I've been lucky enough to acquire some natalensis spores myself. I think your caps are small due to lack of FAE not substrate. The present consensus on the other board is they need more FAE than P.cubensis. Here's a petri dish of natalensis I test fruited.

Beautiful Stinknot, you kill it with these species grows! I had read about more FAE and pulled out some genetics to try again. My FC is pretty simple but that makes it easier to modify. :)

Thank you!

Thanks mate I'm a big fan of your work myself. I'm yet to fruit a container of nats. I could be wrong on the FAE. It's just a guess based on my own experience with fuzzy stipes and smaller caps.  Simple FC's are best IMO. Less maintenance and cost. I use an unorthodox passive design myself. It's designed to fruit blue oysters so FAE is never going to be a problem. Look forward to your updates and keep up the great work.

Here's a blurry photo of the first sad looking couple of pins in a natalensis tub. It's a start, I guess!

This first tub is a side pin clown show, so I'm not going to post pictures  . I'm waiting for the fruits to start dropping spores and then I'll try taking some prints...

smellitstinknot, would you be willing to elaborate a bit on your fruiting chamber? It's always super interesting to see what expert growers are doing...

Nice job Newmoon, I bet your tub is about to fill in the top of the sub w/mush next!

I've a tub of Natalensis with fuel pellets added to the mix fruiting right now, mostly from side pins. I picked a plate of side grown mush and now i see mush forming on the center of the sub. I have another regular sub next to it that is about a week behind. I purposely dumped a thick casing on these and they laughed at me as they munched it. I was only able to hook up air hoses to the tub yesterday so hopefully they go crazy now!

Cool, I'll hope my tub follows the same pattern! I feel like natalensis might fruit OK from pf cakes dec style, so I'm going to inoculate a round of those...
