Salty’s Natalensis project is coming along swiftly. I snagged some photos that made the water droplets look like crystals. I quite like the aesthetic.

I have a spot where I toss my old or spent bags of sub. The other day, I was cutting bags and dumping sub and came across these beauties. If I haven't mentioned how tough Natalensis is, this bag probably received lows of mid 40F and highs in mid 70F over the past few weeks. It is sitting on the ground in the shade.

I always enjoy seeing Big Fat Caps from outdoor fruits (short stocky stipes), especially REcycled Ones (Beautiful Caps).

Sweet, just started some bags for outdoor fruits. I'll case my next batch as they look like they'll benefit with the crazy overlay.

Have a bit more spawn. Will treat a tray like PE and one like pans. Also going way less spawn.

That's a one and done project. Buried a block too.

A year has passed since the arrival of Natalensis in our region! A little harvest of delicious mushroom...

I am very happy about the success of our shroomers with this amazing mushroom!

Really enjoying that first pic @Angam, your signature in the corner always gives them a nice Flare too.  Really Cool Man, and Nice Work!

A little over a year ago I germinated 2 agar plates for this, made a few transfers from one where it looked strong - onto 3 more plates, 2 of which I lost to contamination, I also went straight to LC from the germination plate... then  the culture lived in my refrigerator for a year. Well it is on grain again! Just re-read this thread, thanks all for the wisdom!

Just put some Nat to grain, and made some transfers from some too long neglected plates. Hopefully joining the Nat success club in a few weeks.

The mycelium was climbing the walls of the jar before I added the grain. Within a day it had made the transfer. You can almost hear natalensis munching the grains. (nom nom nom)

Here is Natalensis on brown rice, next step, 3lb bag of brown rice with some pearled barley, then let it age.

The Grow bag was cased yesterday. There is some mycelium already poking through the 1/2" casing in places. Also some exudate on the sides of the bag coming off the substrate. There is some real anticipation here. the wait has been so long.

Both agar jars are looking good, nice fluffy white.

Looking good EPirana, they look hungry!

It has been 6 days since I added the jar of grains from above to 3lbs of whole brown rice and pearled barley, this stuff moves! I'll check back in a couple of months, hopefully it ages well.

I am attempting to fruit this in bag. 3 days ago I set up the aquarium air pump and a couple jars - today I was rewarded with a TINY pin! it's super tiny. I could not get a photo worth looking at, grow bag with lots of condensation... hopefully once it grows up a bit it'll be more photogenic. seriously tiny little pin. This week is going to take forever!

Edit* I looked at the bag again now that there is proper daylight. I'm counting at least 10 pins so far.

You’re right Yoshi, this mycelium is hungry! Very nice and healthy looking. I made two transfers from each plate. The original plates look so good that I may just noc up some grain with those while I’m waiting on the transfers. Gotta cook up some wbs tomorrow.

No pics, sorry bout that but I didn’t want to take any chances on contamination in my SAB.

Pale cube-likes keep popping in the yard. Really all I've done is made a ton of nat spawn and placed it in different beds and conditions to see what shade, FAE, and sun provide.

natty.JPG
This patch keeps producing partially to absence veiled noodles depending how much of the mound they need to navigate. Haven't noticed cubes doing this in their native habitat, been a few decades though. Or with my own annual beds.

I grew a bag of sadness =(

So much sadness.

They all aborted. Nothing taller than an inch. No new spores. I have only myself to blame. Year old culture, growth was slowish on grain, stalled out on the substrate for a time then seemed to eat through the casing layer so I thought I'd be okay.  Nope.  The transfers I made from the old agar plates were slow growing too.

Starting again.  The old spores went to agar this morning. I love nice dark spore prints (THANKS AGAIN!!!) Most of the original print remains untouched, So many spores! I dislike waiting for spores to germinate though. My least favorite part of the whole process - well second least. Mushrooms aborting is my least favorite.

That is definitely a sad tale Auhron. Thankfully, you can go back to spores and once it gets going, stand back!

About a week ago, I put 3 clean subs of Nat in a trashcan with drain holes and pea gravel in the bottom. I put a layer of compost, then the subs, covered with bag soil, hunks of bark and a drip water line on a timer.

20220704_161734-1.jpg

I made a 2nd trashcan today with different, "wilder" genetics. It'll be interesting to see how they compare.
