Can the d-limonene in 69ron's San Pedro Extraction be reused?
I have a quick question about the process here:
https://mycotopia.ne...raction-wh2co3/
For extracting from San Pedro Cactus using d-limonene.
I would really prefer to use this extraction because it's all food safe. Less chance of me screwing up and getting sick over it.
But food safe d-limonene is a bit pricey.
My question: after seperating out the d-limonene, can I reuse it in the future?
Each time you do an additional "pull" with the d-limonene, can you just reuse the original d-limonene you used? And after the 3rd and final pull, can you store the d-limonene extraction for a future use?
I understand that I'll likely need to add a bit of d-limonene if I can't extract it all. But I'd hate to have to order 3x of 450ml d-limonene each time I want to do an extraction.
Thanks!

Can the d-limonene in 69ron's San Pedro Extraction be reused?

I looked it up on the internet.
And found a general statement:
In practise limonene can be used for at least ten or more pulls before it is utterly unusable.

When you want to re-use your d-lim it is a good idea to separate the water from it with a bit of anhydrous sodium carbonate.

Wow. Thank you so much for this. Will be very helpful.
will research how to "clean it up with a bit of anhydrous sodium carbonate beforehand"
I'm a bit of a novice, clearly!
Thanks again

It seems to me that the non-polar solvent (limonene) doesn't need to be dry for the freebase pull or the salting out - in both cases it's vigorously mixed with a water solution and then allowed (or forced) to separate. However, I think it would need to be anhydrous for recrystallising or any time water is not one of the solvents you're using.
I'm not a chemist; please correct me if I'm wrong.
