Aaaaaand back!

The wheat in those jars was undercooked, so they took a while to finish.  But they did finish:

DSCN1307.jpg

I ended up with two jars of each of my untested Redboy clones.  One's called "Stubs" and the other is called "One" just as a placeholder.  I'm thinking "One" might be the better fruiter but we'll see.

I hydrated 300 grams of coir and 1 quart jar of verm with 1.5 L of boiling water.  I let it sit in a cooler for about 24 hours (it doesn't need to sit for that long).  It was still a bit dry so I added some water, and made it a bit too wet, so added a bit more verm and then it was at field capacity.

Once it was ready, I spawned half of it with the two quarts of "One" and put that into one 9.5 cup container in a 2.5 gallon bag:

DSCN1309.jpg

The "Stubs" jars I split into two bags:

DSCN1311.jpg

Real excited to see how these do!

I also have some more PE jars about finished that I'll spawn to coir:

Spawned 15 PE cakes to coir in this tub.  Here's the surface just before I cased it yesterday with CV.

My ziplock bags are knotting!  I should have some pins to show soon in those.

Didn't know where else to post and since you were working with redboys.

Here's some that looked like the rainbow on germ. After 5 transfers I gave up and went oats -> coir. Let it sit on my cold basement floor for a month till colonized. Brought it upstairs and it didn't move so cased with jiffy starter. Within 2 days had these clusters.

I'll pull and print and then thinly case what didn't fruit, just shows if you know what you're looking for you can get fruits without clean spawn.

Hey Rocky!  Sorry I missed your post.  How'd they do?

---

In my last post, I had just spawned a couple of bags of my two Redboy isolates.  Those first bags didn't do great, I think because they were too warm, and I only ended up with about ten grams dry.

But, I did spawn several more after that, and they're doing better:

Here are shots of the two bags of "One":

---

DSCN1320.jpg DSCN1330.jpg

---

That second bag might be timed just right for me to get some prints this weekend.  We'll see how motivated I end up being.

---

Then I have a couple of bags of my "Stubs" clone that are a bit slower and don't have the same pinset:

DSCN1324.jpg DSCN1325.jpg

I might discard that strain because "One" is doing much better.

---

Finally, I still have that big PE tub of 15 PF cakes spawned to coir, cased in coir/verm, and patched twice:

DSCN1327.jpg DSCN1328.jpg

It's knotting up.  Fingers crossed!

Your pheno looks nicer then mine, but yeah I'd stick to that new culture, nice flush!

They printed, that's all that matters. Few big boys, but mostly just clusters that were aborting due to spawn being super bacterial. I wanted something with a red print or a nice appearance, but it's just too normal.
After got my prints I threw it to the graveyard where's it has flushed a few more times and I spread the caps to my manure piles or I've put the caps in water and start dumping spore water all over.

PE is looking promising, after growing PE, normal cubes just suck/boring.

How much longer does PE tend to take than the "Average Cube"? Is it only the fruiting that takes longer or does it take longer in general from germination through fruiting?

Well, of course different cultures of PE grow differently like all other cubes (some cultures fruit slightly faster than other cultures etc) but in a general sense, they colonize at the same rate as normal cubes (I’ve actually noticed that a lot of my PE cultures colonize a bit faster than “normies”). Where the extra time comes in is that it can take between 3-4 weeks to pin after spawning and then because PE is such a prolific pinner and the fruits are so dense, you’re looking at more time there after pinning to maturity… also, since they don’t shit spores all over the place, you can let them mature a bit more than normal cubes (I do but not necessary)

So I’d say in a general sense, that 2-3 weeks longer than regular cubes is a pretty good assessment

Money shots of the first bag:

DSCN1333.jpg DSCN1334.jpg DSCN1335.jpg DSCN1338.jpg

This little guy put out 216 grams wet.  I went ahead and discarded the substrate.  Not gonna try to push for every gram with these 100% coir mini subs.

The second bag's pinset is even better.  I'm going to shoot for printing on Saturday.  By then, the caps will be wiiiide open and making a mess.  I might pick some early so the whole bag isn't that way.

I spread the caps to my manure piles

Ever get anything that way?

after growing PE, normal cubes just suck/boring.

These are pretty normal, except that the lineage is from someone good who says they worked with the strain for a long while.  Even multispore they put out great flushes (like the cakes from earlier in this thread).

My APE culture goes 18 days on Oats, but once spawned, they colonize like any other Cube, but fruiting is SLOW.  My current data shows 3 weeks or just a tad longer(as mentioned above).

Some Lovely Tubs(Correction... BAGS) there Sidestreet, looks like some Chunky fruits from here.

Nothing this season, but I have patches that I've dumped jet-black spore water into multiple times, I need to wait for fall to know I bet. Cubes just popped in my one patch, but that's the sub graveyard.

Those are amazing flushes and worth keeping in cold storage if I had those flushes. I just can't stand 6+g of cubes anymore, PE wasn't that much more potent for me, so I had to move on to woodies/pans.

Thanks everyone.  Here's another one for you...guess it won't make it to Saturday for printing!  These pics are from this morning.  I would have liked to let them go a little further, but looking at them early today I knew I wasn't going to print them and wanted to get them early.  This one yielded 230 grams wet.

DSCN1349.jpg DSCN1343.jpg DSCN1345.jpg

It looks like one of my "Stubs" bags will have better timing for printing:

DSCN1340.jpg DSCN1341.jpg

You can really tell which one I put some extra coir on top of when spawning.  Its a little slower, but the pinset is much better.

Ideally (IME) you don’t want that top layer to fully colonize.. I’ll routinely patch with more coir if that top layer gets engulfed or throw a little more on right when knotting starts and it’s close to becoming fully colonized and those always do better, pin set wise. Ppl have had success with making the top layer a bit thicker and compressing it to slow growth through the layer with nice results.

Pretty fruits!

I've heard of compressing the top layer, especially with PE--I'll have to give it a shot.

I did manage to get some Redboy prints going, from this bag of my "Stubs" clone:

DSCN1354.jpg

Post-printing carnage:

DSCN1358.jpg

And then here's the other "Stubs" bag ready to harvest:

DSCN1359.jpg DSCN1360.jpg DSCN1362.jpg

And that's the last of the Redboy bags!

That leaves me with the PE tub, which has just a couple of early pins.  It's basically a multispore tub, so I'll be looking to get clones out of that if I can.

OK, due to popular demand  , it's time to make the PE grows look like the Redboy grows.

Here's what I'm starting with.  My one big tub, 15 cakes spawned to coir.  I started with LC made from a mix of agar wedges started from multispore.  The first fruits are popping up.

DSCN1364.jpg

I just took these two early risers to agar.  I'll try to grab a few more clones as the tub progresses so I can do some test runs and choose a winner.  I'll be looking for any weirdos as well.
