Hey my fellow Topiates.

Been wanting to get back into some mescaline and wanted to do a simple alcohol extract before brewing some tea for another day.
I will be working with dried P.Torch chips that have proven they're good quality in the past

I've used isopropyl in the past but was considering using acetone instead as both are polar

Hey charmer.
Good to see you brother.
I was just asking to make sure acetone would work instead of isopropyl alcohol.
Acetone is easier to get right now and is also polar.

Are there any reasons I should stick to alcohol or will acetone serve? I figured acetone might pull better and evaporate better.
Is there anything that would make this a bad idea

Everything that a quick scan of a “mescaline salts solubility” search says that citrate and hydrochloride are insoluble in IPA and acetone so IDK.
More soluble in ethanol and water so what about 100 proof vodka? Kind of a best of both worlds approach if you’re making a tea that doesn’t need an NP extraction. Quick to reduce since most of the alcohol will boil off fast.
I imagine the mesc is in citrate form in the cactus - are you going to leave it at that or go for hydrochloride? I think it’s the more soluble of the two.

I was thinking of just going for the tar that one gets if they do an alcohol soak and evaporate the alcohol.
I was just thinking that acetone might be easier to get (usually do isopropyl but that's been harder to find during covid) and acetone is certainly quicker and easier to evaporate
I'm avoiding doing the A/B and titrating out HCl salts as I don't have as much room in my new pad and was also looking for that nice go between..... tea is strongest but lasts so long and extracted takes so long to kick in.
I remember the alcohol extract as kicking in quicker and being a little stronger than mesc HCl

If you're looking to replicate the Isopropyl Alcohol Tar extract from the "before times" I wouldn't go for acetone. Everything I've found in a quick googling combines acetone with IPA to get a more "pure" tar...

If I couldnt find pharmaceutical-grade 99% IPA at the drug store due to the pandemic I would try Ethyl Alcohol (aka Everclear or the highest proof clear booze I could find) and see what kind of tar came out.

Keep in mind also that the red bottle of ISO-HEET "gas line antifreeze" at the gas station/truck stop is 100% isopropyl alcohol if you're in the States. You don't really need pharmaceutical grade IPA for a tar extraction...

What is the advantage of alcohol or acetone instead of water as a solvent in this case?

Thanks Phineas...and good seeing you, it's been a little while.
I'll probably just go with the Iso then.
Will probably have to order it as I haven't seen it on the shelves in months
