Ephedra nevadensis 'Mormon Tea', is a carefree plant to grow. Pretty much treat it like a cacti. My poor plant looks a little  tangled right now and could probably use a trim. It does make for a nice tea that has a subtle energy to it. Extraction is easy, boil dried branches in water.

Are any of you growing or using this plant?

This plant grows wild along several lower elevation mountain roads that I travel occasionally. I learned about the tea during my herbal experimentation period in the 70's and 80's when I amassed a pretty good database of information. I actually became fond of the tea made from this plant and find it relaxing.

I have not replenished my supply of dried stems for a few years, but will now go collecting before it gets too hot this year.

Thanks for the memory jog Yoshi.........

You are welcome Sky, it reminds me of old times too. A old friend would receive bags of dried stems from his lady friend who'd collect them on the reservation. It has been a few years for me too luckily my plant really needs a trim.

I have read references to this plant in the past . I imagine as a resident of Las Vegas Nv I may find it's all around? Yet did not take the time to seek it out. Any advice on foraging would be great! Thanks yoshi

Chips, I have not hunted it but i think mountains not deserts of NV would be where to start. I bought mine from Richter's nursery in Canada.

It prefers rocky dry areas, not sandy flats, and has a pretty wide habitat. The mountainous areas around Las Vegas are a likely habitat areas. I know it ranges into Mexico.

I looked up a habitat chart..........
