Hi everyone, this is my first post outside the welcome mat so I hope I'm not doing anything wrong.

So basically I have this mycelium in a small glass that I've decided not to birth since it took a longer time than the others so it could be bacterial plus I won't have any more space to place it in my tub.

Anyways, I read a bunch of in vitro teks here (hippie3, mlbj, chronic, etc) and I thought it would be just removing the aluminum foil lid and placing something on top like a bag or something. But then I read that I should dunk first, how true is that?

I just placed a bottle on top and made a few holes on top.

I love to see irregular jars being used! Way cool.

No need to dunk, let her rip. A casing layer on top, even just dry verm from the bag and then add water, would be a good idea to humidify the inside of the bottle.

Great! I have both peat moss and verm that I could use for casing, but I fear dry verm would bring contam. I'm a noob so I'm scared.

And yeah I misted the inside of the bottle!

Thank you so much!!

Edit: I've just noticed there ar e a bunch of hyphal knots on top, would casing make them abort?

Definitely add some verm or coir or something as a top layer, no adding it on top of knots wont make them abort.

Dry verm is fine and wont cause contams on its own. It's a pretty inert substance, thats why we use it as a
filter barrier for brf jars.

Hey, I feel I should have taken it out of the glass and placed it upside down, look at all the knots that are forming on the side, are they gonna go to waste?

Its looks pretty cool with chunky verm and a tiny jar haha. Looks like some kinda of Icelandic landscape.

You could prbably just transfer that whole thing out of the jar and into a quart or gallon sized ziplock bag with a bunch of pinholes poked into it and forget about it till harvest. Then the sides won't be so smushed up.

Maybe throw in a handfull of wet verm to add some humidity just loose, make the "nyehh" sound when you toss it in thx.

I don't really have much time to spare for this hobby but I'll keep it in mind for the next time I do something like this :)

Thank you all
