Hey y'all. I told myself to wait a bit, but this is just so much fun and I got a slight problem with patience. Doesn't help I'm stuck at home and the mushrooms are about the only thing in my life that have gone well in the last year or so.

So here we go.
Bartender.....another round please?

It's gonna be a while before I have any thing impressive to show. But im gonna start this now so I can dump the photos and keep them off my phone.

This time around im trying 3 strains again.
Koh Samui Super Strain. (From my first spore prints)
Albino A+
Tampanensis

So far I'm a week in since inoculation. Im trying my hand at straight brown rice. ( 9er tek ) Some grain jars with wild bird seed and learning the ropes with agar.

I inoculated on the 14th so today is day 9. I put everything in my glove box and out of each syringe I made agar plates. Liquid culture jars. A grain jar. And brown rice jars. Kind of an all in one test to see how things compare. I was gonna make a couple brf cakes to throw in there, but after 2 evenings of preparation I decided to skip those. Not to mention being low on jars.

I'm gonna get some pics organized and I will be back later to show what's happening so far. I'm expecting pretty good results this time around and I thank you all for your shared knowledge and input that helped me figure it out.

Well it's just some jar pics but here's where I'm at.

Day 9.
KSSS from LC made from my first spore prints I collected myself.
It's moved into the rice and the grain nicely.

Albino A× from vendor syringe. It's a little bit slower but it's also taking hold pretty well. The grain jar is much denser growth on the bottom but this made a better pic.

Tampanensis from vendor syringe. These are much slower with not a speck in the grain jar but starting in on the rice. I've got high hopes this will colonize better from agar or LC, but for now we work on that patience thing and wait to see what happens.

Had to peek and see what's happening. The one that's damn near ready is what makes me really like using a liquid culture. But the albino a+ jar is making progress as well. I just shook that one yesterday so it's just starting to recover.

Think I'm gonna try to copy Fahts grow bag with these jars and see how it goes.

Looking good man......there's all kinds of possibilities. For example you can also do a G2G transfer/expansion with the WBS once colonized.....

Jars are where the fungus grows.....it's porn too......And I like the idea of doing the the fruiting bags........

Good growing vibes!

Busy night.... The jar I started from LC colonized like mad. So it became the first candidate to try one of Fahts zip lock bags. I only had one jar ready so I tried the single bag measurements and just realized I screwed up my math. I've got 1lb bricks so 450g . So I ended up with 112g of coir. No wonder I had to add another 1/4 cup water. Didn't bother pasturizing the sub. I just wiped the bucket with alcohol, dumped the boiling water on the coir and then the vermiculite on that. Covered the bucket and came back 90 min later. By then It was at 77 deg so i mixed in the grain and crushed it all up in the bag.....so..... Before next time I need to buy freezer bags or be more careful. I used an old one I saved (I got a stash of lightly used ziplocks....my mother would be so proud) but they're apparently pretty thin. Ripped a couple holes in it while attempting to shake the shit outta it. And then I chose a cardboard box instead of a Tupperware. Be super easy to hide it if I had to. Plus. I been sick...didnt want to go to the store. After doing 1 I think it's a real cool option. Specially since I only really want a first flush anyway. I'm just testing clones.

Thanks Faht, for the detailed write up last week.

Well. The time has come to start fruiting all the fruits of my labors. It's been a month of playing with agar , learning how to make grain jars, and watching the mycellium grow.

I took apart my grow space to start construction on a bigger, more better, super secret evil lair.... So I needed a new grow space for this round. I'm pretty stoked to see how it works out. Here's my new "Cube Cabinet"

I put the first 2 Ziploc bag experiments in there to soak up some blue light and the first 2 shoeboxes should be done colonizing tomorrow.

20210523_150446~2.jpg 20210523_194059~2.jpg 20210523_194004~2.jpg 20210523_150312_Burst01~2.jpg

I'm gonna try water tubs big enough for 6 qt shoeboxes. Copied Yoshitrainers air supply splitter jars to pump fresh air in. Put a heat bomb in for heat, and im still trying to figure out how to cool it down on hot days later in the summer. Got a few ideas...just need to fiddle some more n make it work.

I hide everything. So I put some simple barrel latches that drop into place and lock the cabinet doors from inside. To unlock there's a hole drilled to insert a "key" from below.

20210523_150542~2.jpg 20210523_150632~2.jpg

Been colonizing some KSSS. Cambodian clones. Albino A+. And tampanensis. So here I grow....let the fun part begin.

Opened up the first 2 shoebox tubs. These are my first agar to grain attempts. Was going to case them real thin, but I didn't have time to prepare it. So I will just skip it. I might sprinkle a real sparse layer of vermiculite to help soak up any standing water that drops from the lid. Got the air pump running just to see how it works. That was installed more for the upcoming Natalensis.

Quick question.
There's only about an inch of water in the lower tub sprinkled with salt. You guys think that's enough?

Sorry I don't have an answer to your question, but from what I can see your mycelium looks happy so far.  Can you post a picture of it using regular (white) light?

First pins in both the agar/grain shoeboxes! They must like the water bins.

20210603_091917~2.jpg 20210603_092249~2.jpg

Way sooner than the Ziploc bags. Only difference is some coffee grounds in the sub and it was pasteurized.

Ziploc of AA+ is starting to fill in too. Growing real slow though. The big fat pin in back is big as my thumb and has been growing for 3-4days already.

AA+ is slower and the slower the stronger the strain, anecdotally speaking ofcourse.
