Why am I trying to create lightning? Well, there's a pretty well-proven theory that after a lightning storm mushrooms begin popping up all over the place, apparently, this is because the storms put the mycelium into fruiting conditions. I have decided to put the theory to the test simulating a storm as best I can in a fruiting chamber. It's worth noting that the experiments were ran on species like shiitake but not yet tested on the magical types.

The two types of mushroom species i'll be running the experiment on are: Albino and Golden Teachers.

It will be interesting to see if they grow (1) more quickily and (2) with a greater yeild.

Progress:

I was able to create some small electrical arcs for the fruiting chamber:

Interesting experiment, I would be curious to see any results

Ancient wisdom for sure considering the rainfall and blowing fresh air that usually accompanies lightning

What do they say, fan and mist fan and mist

The Phys article implies that it's the electricity interacting with the mycelium that causes the higher yield, almost 2x as much.  Obviously yes wind and water come into play aswell.

If I may.......watch your intentions as you "play" with the lightning.......I'd have to ask myself "for what purpose do I want to increase yields?"

I suspect that it may not be necessary to use high voltages for accomplishing this.....(speculation on my part, experiments are necessary, but it's in my notes for sure)

Good stuff man! I love making sparks too.....

Update (2) on the lightning box. Added vents and mounted the arc generator:

I'll be adding more generators to the box soon once the supplies arrive.

INTERESTING  hypothesis !   i wonder if a small amount of ozone from the lighting strikes is a trigger ?

I use high concentrations of ozone from my commercial size ozone generators to sterilize all rooms in my house in rotation to kill bacteria mold , mold spores bugs, dust mites

i remove any living things from the room first ..before treatment starts , .pets ,  plants ,  fungus ...people ......as its  toxic at high levels ..

The Ozone  dissipates in 30 to 60 min  after treatment ..

But am i wondering  if after i air out room i have treated with ozone  if there is a bit of residual ozone left ?  ..Is this ....beneficial or detrimental to fungus ..?

We all have noticed the faint smell of ozone after a lighting storms ?

 Yes I understand. I'll keep an eye out for and suspicious looking vans and bat handy with me at all times.

More supplies arrived today, time to get wiring :)

Got most of it wired up. Bit worried about turning it on right now. Going to wait untill tomorrow.

Update (3) Added a few more arc generators and made a junction in the middle to hook up all the wires.

Not the best footage sorry. Think the camera has problems catching everything.

All I can say at this point is make sure you secure that shit down sir. Not sure if you have pets or whatever but the chances of starting a fire with that thing seem high. Of course everything is good when your standing there but if something got bumped and it was left unattended, well.

It's not going anywhere don't worry. Made sure of that with super glue and eletrical tape. This is not something I will be leaving unattended for any long peroids of time. Also should the box slip it is set up so the aligator clips I use to hook up power to it would slip out. Lastly, it's concrete floor. Lastly lastly, and most importantly I am wearing a knock off colin furze safety tie to keep me safe.

Enthusiasm for this project has taken a dunk. Will be taking a break for a while.
