A few comments from the old guy and his shit...
Over the last 30 years I learned that cow shit stinks, turns muddy, and is hit and miss versus horse shit.
I don't use stall or contained area shit because it's loaded with urine and really slows things down.
Field cured, grass fed horse shit is where it's at and I don't have to mix verm or anything with it, just straight shit.
I toss the dried shit in an old pillow case and submerge it in a big pot on the stove and it does not stink up the house.
Nice fluffy substrate full of nutrition and I've seen 5-6 flushes on my trays with quick colonization with rhizo growth.
One of the biggest challenges for most people is getting good field cured horse shit so I understand why folks go for cow shit.
As far as grains go I am 20 years in with 50/50 WBS and Popcorn.
I like the large size of the popcorn kernels and so does the mycellium.
This 50/50 approach solves the clumping and difficulty of shaking after the PC and my WBS moisture content is always right due to the popcorn sucking up the moisture out of the WBS.
I load the popcorn in the jars first and then WBS on top and mix them right out of the PC.
Straight horse shit and no casing for me.
I've seen Unc's work and have used his casing method and man the canopy knocks the shit out of mine but I only got a couple of flushes before the contamination sets in so I find 5-6 flushes with a light canopy out produces hands down.
Good to see everyone getting creative and making improvements like we did back in the early days of 'topia.
Kudos to Unc for this casing tek and advancing the process!
Just throwing some shit out there for thought...
