Has anyone worked out a way to get clean prints from their mushrooms?
I've tried a few ways, some ways have been dramatically unsuccessful...
I've made some bags of 2 pound bricks of Masters mix, which is obviously sterile (or at least I hope so) and let them colonise and fruit in situ to maintain cleanliness, try not to handle the bag very much at all except maybe put it on its side for side fruiters. I won't crack the bag open until it is under a hood.
The next problem I have run into, has been condensation. I would put the mushroom on foil, covered with one of those deli containers, and because the mushroom is so full of water the print would collect condensation. I'm thinking of just covering/putting it in a tyvek sleeve instead. But if you've successfully dealt with this, feel free to share how you did it...

I like something along these lines:

 

 

Cut out a bunch of tin foil squares and lay them out in the pan under the rack.  Cover the pan tightly in tin foil.  Then bake the shit out of it in the oven to sterilize. 

 

Once cool, bring it in to your clean room in the glove box or in front of flow hood.

 

Bring your grow into the clean room.  Use your best sterile practices.  You probably won't be able to fit that whole thing into a glove box, so if that's what you have you'll need to cut the caps off outside and put them in one by one.  (I see you have a flow hood, but I'll go on for those with glove boxes.)

 

But once the prints are on the rack positioned over the foil squares, put the foil back over the pan tightly.  I've seen people get sheets of magnet that can be cut to size and placed over the glove box holes to seal it while printing.  In the alternative, I've put the pan into a clean garbage bag to protect it for 24-48 hours. 

 

Then take it apart again and put the foil squares into button bags, fold them, or whatever else you like.

 

You should be able to make spore water out of these prints if you do it well.

I put a couple folded paper towels underneath the tin foil. I've had a few prints that came out pretty soggy as well, and the paper towel will absorb most of the moisture. I use a sealed Tupperware container and put the paper towel on the bottom held down with a little metal rack wiped down with isopropyl so my foil doesn't touch the paper towel. Works good for 2-3 prints at a time.

On the photos rotating.....i use my phone and have to crop each pic a tiny bit and that keeps them from turning. But it's probably different for each kind of device

You print in a sealed Tupperware? 

 

It would be awesome to have a PC-able or oven-safe container with a gasket seal to print in.  Then you could just seal it up while you let the prints drop and don't have to keep it in sterile conditions.  You could have an open dish/ramekin of damp rid in there to help dry it out.

In fact, I'm going to try that--no messing around with magnetic pads to keep my glovebox sealed for 24-48 hours.  Fuck that.

Yeah. Here's what I do.



It works pretty good. Paper towel soaks up the moisture and I put it into my SAB to transfer to button baggie.

I made a bunch of prints at once and basically did the same thing inside the air box and then covered the holes with cardboard. This way works good for a few prints though.

My main condensation problem has been when the shroom was in direct contact with the alfoil. I'd be tempted to put the alfoil underneath the wire thingy, and let the spores have a long drop. Assuming no air currents (its in a sealed container after all)

Throw away the first 4 to 6 hours of drop then move the cap to pressure sterilized foil (or slide or whatever). I cut my foil and sterilize it in a jar and dont open it until it is in a clean zone and ready to collect spores. Shove a needle through the cap and suspend it some how. I like to print in a glove box. And remember to ditch those first few hours of dropped spores.

I usually don't care at all about prints. Sometimes I may be a bit more sterile if I'm sending them out. If they dry, which mine do as they are barely covered by a bowl. They will be free of most contams IME.

 

But when I'm going to be sterile. I'll wrap a Tupperware in foil and PC for 15ish mins, move it to my SAB. Maybe clean the outside of the mush with alcohol. Never use the first "print". I move my prints constantly, doesn't need to be black.

I guess you could modify the lid to have a rack on a "swing" of sorts.
