Hopefully the end results are worth the trouble!

I started w/2-2lb bags of 4 month old Semperviva myceliated brown rice and pearled barley. I broke them up and added them to 1 gal of water w/3 heaping Tbsp of citric acid. It was simmered for 25 min (Pic 1) then drained and pressed through a mesh strainer. Since there was so much grain, I soaked it again in water and citric acid. This time, it was brought to a simmer and the fire was shut off, letting the grains sit 20 min. Again, the grains were drained and pressed. One more time, just water, brought to a simmer the sat 20 min, drained and pressed.

All this liquid was then effortlessly filtered to a clean/pure liquid..........

^^^^ This was not even close to what happened!

You may know how difficult it is to strain out mushroom slime, that gunk clogs everything! Adding the starch from the rice and pearled barley to mushroom slime, takes it to another level! I spent hours just trying to filter it through a kitchen towel. When done, the liquid was placed in the fridge overnight.

The next morning, hours of reduction yielded a dark caramel textured product. (Pic 2)

I added some moonshine to the jar and plan to let it sit in the back of the fridge for a few weeks, maybe a month. (Pic 3) Then filter it as clean as I can, then into the freezer before testing. I did lick some goo off my fingertip and felt a tiny head change.

I think when you licked your finger, you may have gotten a lil more than a head change :biggrin: but I anxiously await the update later. Are you not worried about it going south sitting in the fridge for so long or are you thinking you have enough citric acid and alcohol to preserve the concoction?

The ethanol part is a work in progress. I wanted to keep it warm enough to shake, since it is only about 1/2 shine but after seeing how well it broke down the "caramel", the fridge portion may be shorter. I added 6 heaping Tbsp citric acid in the process so that should help too, I hope.

I think when you licked your finger, you may have gotten a lil more than a head change :biggrin: but I anxiously await the update later. Are you not worried about it going south sitting in the fridge for so long or are you thinking you have enough citric acid and alcohol to preserve the concoction?

interesting idea .......has any one done a Ethanol extract similar to mikeys . with ever-clear or? with the myciliated tek rice ?.

 

I'm guessing you might have  to do like a vacuum filtration ?  

......

anyway ......Yoshi ....cool idea looking forward to seeing how it progresses

Hey Yoshi, great to see someone else try this! I recently made a batch of honey with semperviva on whole oats. I used dried grains though… it worked very well. If it’s ok with you I could share my recipe on your thread here :)

Bezevo I have done an alcohol extract too, works great but I don’t like alcohol so not my thing.

Into the freezer today, hopefully all the sediment will congeal with time so I may filter it out.

Looks like the freezing might work out nicely for separating the sediment from the shine. If I shake the jar, it does start to loosen up the sludge and make for some thick mud inside.

I drained the shine that was on top of the sediment through a cotton ball, screwed the lid back on tightly and laid the jar on it's side back in the freezer. Hopefully the rest of the shine will weep out of the sediment. I tested 3 drops in 1/2 a shot glass of warm water to evaporate some of the shine. In around 15 min, I felt some energy, a light floating feeling, maybe the slightest bit of visual distortion. I'd guess maybe a level 1? I had 0 stomach issues, I even ate.

In retrospect, I should have added 1/2 the amount of shine to extract from the sediment. I'll also dry the sediment and test it for remaining activity too.

More testing to come, stay tuned, same Bat time, same Bat channel!

I tested .5ml this past weekend, it was a solid level 1. I had some CEV, could definitely "feel" it in the body, mild introspection, 0 stomach issues or yawns. Next dose probably 1ml, though, I do have some panaeolus I need to fit in my schedule. :)

The final result of the extraction, the leftovers. I drained as much of the shine as possible and tried different forms of squeezing the rest out with no luck. So, I air dried the leftover material for 24 hr to let the alcohol evaporate before putting it in the dehydrator. When dry, it was ground up and sealed in a 1/2 pint mason jar and tossed in the freezer. I'm betting there are still actives in there, just no clue how much.

I think my next test dose of the extract, I'll skip the 1ml and jump to 2ml.

Experiment #2, 420g of various Ps. Cubensis extracted with citric acid and water then boiled down to about 1/2 pint of goo. Next, it was extracted with moonshine in the freezer then filtered. Even after filtering, it has the consistency of cough syrup. It has been added to the queue for testing.
