I started w/2-2lb bags of 4 month old Semperviva myceliated brown rice and pearled barley. I broke them up and added them to 1 gal of water w/3 heaping Tbsp of citric acid. It was simmered for 25 min (Pic 1) then drained and pressed through a mesh strainer. Since there was so much grain, I soaked it again in water and citric acid. This time, it was brought to a simmer and the fire was shut off, letting the grains sit 20 min. Again, the grains were drained and pressed. One more time, just water, brought to a simmer the sat 20 min, drained and pressed.
All this liquid was then effortlessly filtered to a clean/pure liquid..........
^^^^ This was not even close to what happened!
You may know how difficult it is to strain out mushroom slime, that gunk clogs everything! Adding the starch from the rice and pearled barley to mushroom slime, takes it to another level! I spent hours just trying to filter it through a kitchen towel. When done, the liquid was placed in the fridge overnight.
The next morning, hours of reduction yielded a dark caramel textured product. (Pic 2)
I added some moonshine to the jar and plan to let it sit in the back of the fridge for a few weeks, maybe a month. (Pic 3) Then filter it as clean as I can, then into the freezer before testing. I did lick some goo off my fingertip and felt a tiny head change.

I think when you licked your finger, you may have gotten a lil more than a head change but I anxiously await the update later. Are you not worried about it going south sitting in the fridge for so long or are you thinking you have enough citric acid and alcohol to preserve the concoction?

interesting idea .......has any one done a Ethanol extract similar to mikeys . with ever-clear or? with the myciliated tek rice ?.
I'm guessing you might have to do like a vacuum filtration ?
......
anyway ......Yoshi ....cool idea looking forward to seeing how it progresses

Bezevo I have done an alcohol extract too, works great but I don’t like alcohol so not my thing.

In retrospect, I should have added 1/2 the amount of shine to extract from the sediment. I'll also dry the sediment and test it for remaining activity too.
More testing to come, stay tuned, same Bat time, same Bat channel!
