Hi everyone, this is my first time in growing shrooms.  I plan on growing pscilocybe shrooms but there are different types and strains.  Which one is the most popular for first timers?

I recommend Southeast Asians - Thai Pink Buffalo or South American strains. So long as you start with Ps. cubensis (like most folks tend to do) they all grow the same - generally.

B-plus is nice - along with's hard to go wrong.

Welcome Jenny! In addition to Myc's great advice, I'd like to add Golden Teachers to the list. I grew them for years and we had a lot of fun together.

Good luck!

I started before finding this wonderful resource site.

I bought from Premium Spores, and this is not a recommendation or promotion by any means*, because they had a some ease of growth and good basic info to help make a decision. I ended up going with Super Strain Koh Samui. So far is going well.

So no  strain recommendation, but if you don't have a source already may want to check out PS.

*Not promoting, just stating my experience in case there's a no promoting clause in the TOS ;)

For my first grow I’ve been looking at Golden Teacher, B+ or Cambodian Gold. From what I’ve read GT appears the best choice as its described as being more forgiving for newbies to grow.
Unless anyone else has better recommendations I will be using GT.

If you go the Premium Spores route, use discount code "MIDWEST" to get some savings.  I think it's a 5% discount.

I'm about to start my first grow, and I've decided to go with Golden Teachers. I've heard that some strains, such as Penis Envy can be more stubborn, especially for beginners.

Original PE all the way.  They are as easy to grow than any other cube.  Spore -> agar -> grain -> coco in a monotub and you'll be good to go.

I'd consider PE to be the only cube that is "hard" to grow.

I don't think it matters what cube you choose as long as you wait for PE to be a 2nd or 3rd grow.

Once you get surface conditions, casing, and understand the patience involved with cubes, then expand out to slower more picky fruiters like PE.

I did GT's my first time, and it worked out swimmingly. I'mma try another grow out,as I'd really like to become proficient. I also need to keep better records.I'm an oldster, and I have already forgotten some of the details.

So fa I've found no issue based on strain. For me, it's really been about providing the proper sterility at firts, the maintaining good conditions when fruiting.
