What’s the ratio of colonized grains expanding onto hardwood fuel pellets sub for shitake spawn ?

I don't know an exact ratio but shitake are good eaters. How big are the bags of sub? Do you plan to fruit from your bags?

On a side note, I think some people use bales of hay for their oyster subs?

I try to spawn with high grain to sub ratio's......always

 

Are you making blocks? My shiitake grows are all logs.....

I’ve got the 5 cups HWFP, bran and gypsum going in bags . Just PCd the bags last night . I did two bags . Would a quart shiitake grains be enough for them both or one quart to one bag ?

You could go way lower with those added nutes. Most use like a scoop of spawn.


If you up the ratio of grain spawn you can treat most HWFP like coir and omit any nutrition. Grain provides everything we need.
For personal growth I just use a ton of spawn. In my opinion additives really only come into play when you're scaling up. Fun to practice but not realistic for most home cultivators.

I’d like to use this for plugging shitake logs.

I will be using another strain for fruiting in bagsvin the near future .

What edibles can fruit In the same chamber simultaneously? Trying to see what varieties I can get into.
