Recently got into Mycology and I have been on the hunt for a wild edible species. Well I found a Golden Reishi on a walk with the family. Decided to clone it and grow it out for medicinal use. So far I have made it to transfer 1 on Agar.

So is the non white part slime mold? One of the 4 original has only that on it.

I just looked up slime mold. I couldnt figure out what that was. Thanks for the help. All but one original had that visible.

Transfers are looking good. The only original one without slime mold is looking good as well.

Nice work! Keep going for sure, we found a golden Maitake last year, cloned it, and it has an extremely persistent bacterial component to it....

 

I'd make at least another set of plates and transfers before jumping to grain and do a tester before committing to a big grain run.....those are looking good but still could use a bit of cleaning IMHO

Thanks for the input. The two bottom are transfers the top left is an original. I might do a single jar with the bottom left and do another couple transfers of the bottom right before going too big. 

 

Since this is my first agar experience and my first clone. What am I looking for outside of fluffy white mycelium?

We are looking for homogenous round plates typically. You’ll eventually learn the nuances of each myc.

See how some have notches. That most likely indicates something there the myc is avoiding. You may luck out cutting a few squares away from there and transferring to grain.

Easier to go out another plate and if it looks more symmetrical, SEND It!

The plate with the ship looks the best. The plate you posted a pix of earlier looks like a type of bacteria infection rather than mold. Bacteria can hitch hike on mycelium as a symbiotic relationship. Arathu mentioned a wild strain we have cloned, testing results concluded that its harboring a gram positive bacillus. We’re on transfer 8 now with it and still no monoculture. For just getting started you have done a fabulous job with your clone. Looking forward to seeing you move it to grain…….

That yellow growth is not a slime mold? Or are you talking about the scalloped plates?

Well. I did not do an additional tranfer as I made a batch of spawn and decided to give it a whirl. The beginners luck appears to be continuing.

What do you guys think? Ready for bulk?

I still have 2 agar plates to mess with if need be.

So the transfer to LC and another plate are coming along well. I still have some technique honing, but the laminar flow hood is proving to be sterile at this point.

Getting a hood set-up changes things for sure.....It opens up all kinds of horizons particularly by the fundamental confidence it provides and directly proves.....

 

I like to sit in the stream from my hood.......I even get sinus relief from it......

 

You'll quite likely amaze yourself. That's very nice work, I want to see that fruit as golden.....

 

Man the possibilities are endless.....

I shook the two grain jars I did on 11/14 last night. Hopefully I get a moment to pasteurize some pellets this weekend and we can get everything on bulk.
