Nice! DIY hoods are the way to go IMO (if possible).
FWIW, an important design detail that's easy to overlook or forget is to make sure the blower's output is not blowing directly at the filter (have the blower air enter the box perpendicular to the filter face).
And something I added to mine that I'm really glad I did was an extra electrical outlet on top of the box, like so:
The cord is an extension cord wired into the blue outlet box that contains a switch for the blower and the extra outlet (which I use for my blender and impulse sealer; it's really nice to be able keep their cords off the ground, among other advantages). The switch operates a really short length of extension cord that I plug the blower into. I wired in that way so I could take the blower out easily, which I've never had to do but whatever).
