So last weekend I got kinda fed up with my SAB. It works, but I just feel I would have more fun with a cabinet. So far I have sourced my Hepa Filter and my blower. I still need to source some electrical pieces, but I need to see what I currently have at the house.
If you guys have any tips or tricks let me know. I am following a guide from FreshCap to this point.

Some have used a a router speed controller from Harbor Freight , ....well to control fan speed heh

Good call on the speed control.
You have to have a "shaded pole" motor in order to vary the speed with a triac or other motor controller.
That or a variable frequency drive and compatible motor.

Cool project, gonna save a ton of$$$$ building it yourself. Have you decided on box material. Just curious, i was thinking about doing one of the as well.

Yeah we decided to use some reclaimed plywood. So far the main box is pretty well done. Decided on a 14x14x1 pre-filter so he has to design the box around the fan to fit that filter. Then we have to wire it and put it all together. I am hoping to have it done this weekend. I would like to play with expanding some liquid culture and it would make it allot easier than trying to use the SAB.
So far I have $134.37 in the blower and $205.19 in the HEPA filter. Probably gonna have another $30 in wiring, switches/plugs, and misc.

Nice! DIY hoods are the way to go IMO (if possible).
FWIW, an important design detail that's easy to overlook or forget is to make sure the blower's output is not blowing directly at the filter (have the blower air enter the box perpendicular to the filter face).
And something I added to mine that I'm really glad I did was an extra electrical outlet on top of the box, like so:
The cord is an extension cord wired into the blue outlet box that contains a switch for the blower and the extra outlet (which I use for my blender and impulse sealer; it's really nice to be able keep their cords off the ground, among other advantages). The switch operates a really short length of extension cord that I plug the blower into. I wired in that way so I could take the blower out easily, which I've never had to do but whatever).

Nice build. This fan has 2 speeds so I am going to put a double pull switch in line. 1 for on off 2 for high low.

Yes I do like the addition of an outlet and had it in my build list. I want to be able to run my Sealer and a few other tools without having to pull an extension cord in addition.

Thanks for the complements. My buddy is actually doing this for me. He loves wood working and he failed to help me with my dining room table several months ago like he promised so I let him make it up to me ;) . I have also promised him some mushrooms in return.

Whoever built that for you deserves a bonus.

Knowing me and my clumsiness and inability to cut straight. Or source correct materials.
I spent $300 on labor and less headaches. If time is money I saved money in the end.
