I wouldn't be worried about that leaf (possible minor PH swing, doesn't look like light burn, I don't see any leaf tipping so it's not overfertilization... and ZERO indicators of over watering); your plant looks healthy and has the red petioles which is a wonderful sign of a strong plant.  The trichome production is a concern this late in the game.  I hope it's not a genetic issue, I've heard of this happening, but I've grown MANY feminized seeds, and all have frosted up no problem and have never experienced it personally.  I have had a few over the years run late, but not this late, I hope she frosts up for you Soon.  Good Vibes to the Afghan Momma.

Thanks for that evaluation.

I bought 5 seeds of the Afghani #1. This is the second seed that has behaved strangely. I planted another one a couple of days ago so I guess we'll see what comes of it.

I have strongly suspected genetics being the issue. Perhaps just a bad run of seeds from some poor parentage.

 

This has been my favorite cannabis strain for years and I've worked with this plant many, many times. Never had an issue until this particular batch.

Either way I have a couple of more seeds to try if #3 of 5 (third seed out of five) fails to perform.

 

I added about 1/8 teaspoon (just a pinch) of epsom salts to the watering today. Curios to see if that helps out.

It's makes the most sense being a bad batch of seeds (hopefully not all of them).  The other two plants have plenty of frost on extending leaves so it definitely points the finger at the genetic makeup.  I normally see light frost before week 3 consistently... and I'm sure you do too.  I've had kush strains bulk up late, but that's different and fairly normal for kushes, I hope your lady spits out the frost late... or eventually.

I'll know just as soon as this last seed begins to develop true leafsets. The "whorling" starts in the early stages.

If I see it in this third planting I'll simply abandon the strain and toss the seeds in the outdoor flowerbed just to see what comes up.

 

I did go and search this issue. The general feedback was twofold:

Wait to see what happens. The plant may develop trichomes in the later weeks of flower.

Or

It is poor genetics. (Which I had presumed from the start when I noticed the odd behavior of the seedlings.)

 

Either way, an experiment is an experiment. If she doesn't develop any trichomes at all.........I'll put her out in the living room for the cats to graze. LOL They love to nibble cannabis plants.

Wish could help you, just trying to get a handle on this .

For my grow I just got a well reviewed soil mix and cut it with seed starter mix so it wouldn’t be as hot like a 4:1 . Then I just watched and tried NOT to touch it or give it much, But water and a little molasses . Kept it super simple. I learned a lot and STILL screwed stuff up .

Given the miracle of our online community, we can all learn from one another's mistakes and successes. The experience base here is pretty solid and there is no shame in asking for help.

Many of my current methods were developed from reading articles detailing other people's methods. Just experiment and adopt what seems to work. Success is only a mistake away. LOL

Taking small corrective action has saved the day again.

Afghani #1 is starting to put on some trichomes finally.

 

I discussed this issue and showed a couple of pics to a friend of mine. He looked at the leaves and told me that the whorling is due to a mineral deficiency. The stunted leaf structures (the parts that are discolored) are unable to absorb light. One half of the leaf structure grows while the other half remains stationary - thereby producing the whorling pattern.

 

Yesterday I gave a second watering with just a pinch of epsom salts in the mix. (I'm talking literally a pinch - 1/8 teaspoon at the most.) As of today I am starting to see the development of trichomes.

Will continue to add expsom salts to the water for one or two more waterings and make observations. Like with anything else, one can get carried away with the epsom salts so I'm using the small measures approach and only using them with just this one fussy plant.

 

I was advised that if I could correct the mineral deficiency that the plant would likely go on to perform as expected. She'll just take a week or two longer than the neighbors to finish.

I use a tsp per 4.5-5 gallons of water, you definitely don't need much, great sulfer additive as well.  I used to get late flower mag and potassium deficiencies, and I'm not talking about the final water only stage to let them Fade.  Great advice from a friend, I wonder if that whorling is a sulfer deficiency.  Epsom also balances PH problems, deters pests, and neutralizes Soil PH over time.  Wonderful stuff in small doses and a great foliar spray for immediate uptake.  I grow tomatoes as well and they just love Magnesium same as Cannabis.  Epsom Salt is a MUST have for any sort of gardening(Tomatoes get BIG).  Wonderful news she's throwing trichomes.... Congrats!

Afghani #1 is frosting up nicely. The epsom salts really seem to have helped and I ceased adding them as of last watering. I estimate that the plant is in her last two weeks of flower.

 

Blue Cheese and Heavy Grapefruit were harvested a couple of days ago. Will post up pics of the finished bud once it's dry. Things turned out great this time and the bud looks spectacular.

 

I generally select plant genetics that lean heavily (almost entirely) toward Indica parentage. The plants are generally shorter in stature and have a shorter growth cycle. All of the cultivars that I've been growing are supposed to be 95% Indica with an 8-week flower period. Afghani #1 is holding up the show. Looks like it'lll be another two weeks before I can get the next round in to flower.

I like the quick turn around of autos indoors. But I’ve got a bunch of stuff set outside that’ll take its time too .

What was the liquid fertilizer you use ? Botanicare liquid karma ?
